Steroids in sports

I was watching the news last night (channel 8 in Cleve) and they were talking about steroid awareness with younger athletes and the decline in HR's in the major leagues due to the awareness of steroids. They said the group most likely to use steroids ( 7th, 8th & 9th grade girls ). That might explain the freshman girl I seen at a cross country meet last year. She was also a wrestler and ripped better than the guys. She had arms bigger than mine. ::)

There was a thread about this topic back when Marian Jones admitted to using steroids when she won all those track medals in the Olympics.

And while some of us made jokes about it, it's really not a laughing matter. ?

Young male athletes are still the largest group using steroids, but incredibly, there is a growing number of young girls using anabolic steroids. ?

(Just a little info---anabolic steroids are a synthetic or man-made form of testosterone. ?And while testosterone is normally present in both men and women, it is in much smaller amounts in females.)

Apparently girls are using steroids for several reasons:
---increasing muscle mass to improve their athletic performance
---to achieve a desired lean, muscular physique

I guess it's just something we have to be more aware of?now that our girls are encouraged to be more competitive in all aspects of their lives. ? :-/ ?
