Sudden Death,
I just wanted to send a message to you and your team.
We hope that the parent that was injured by the foul ball is O.K.
I could not believe the composure your pitcher had on the mound after her dad was injured.
Please pass on our best wishes for a quick recovery. Get well soon.

Glad to hear he is ok! I think we will issue batting helmets to all our parents for next Tuesday's games!

We can't say enough how impressed everyone was with your pitcher's performance while her dad was being attended to behind the backstop!!!

Good luck the rest of the year...!

Kettering Fileds in Dayton have 4 backstops that are back to back. They are closer than most facilities that use the same configuration. There was a line drive foul ball that came straight over the backstop. Upon hearing the standard, "heads up", our parent turned and took the shot right on the jaw. TKO! He is doing fine today.

Glad to hear he is doing better.

Hopefully, this will intensify the effort to get the new back stops up there for next year. I think they have the materials but were looking for a company to install it.

All the best to the parent and SDS this year and beyond.

? Hawk, youre right, the materials are already purchased (have been since March) along with break away fences. The hang up is the city taking its time awarding the contract to install. ? ::)

With the overwelming amount of people attending league games this year, its a wonder there havent been more people hurt by foul balls, hopefully this lights a fire under the city to get these done.....

P.S. Hope the parent feels better!

That will be a phenomenal facility once those backstops are upgraded. Kettering fields is improving every day! Thanks to Chris, Lou and Shorty for putting so much time into it and making every event out there a great one!

Glad the SDS parent is ok. It IS a wonder there haven't been more plunks! Even the paramedics had to dodge a couple!!!!

C'mon City of Dayton, these guys are making the people come, now you have to build it!!! ?:D

In Mattoon, IL they have very close fields. All of the walk ways have netting covering the fans to protect all persons from possible foul balls.

I am not used to seeing such low fencing. I am used to seeing 15' chain link fence 10 past 1st to 10 ft past third with an additional netting going up another 15 foot above the chain link. I never saw a fan hurt by fall tipped balls coming over the fencing. Also made it great for catchers to actually play a foul ball.

Very class act to post and check on the parent. Are best wishes are with the family as well.

I'm glad to hear that it turned out okay. There are some scary stories out there.

I do hope the parent is alright after it all. Quad diamonds without proper fencing is scary for the fans. I hope Kettering Field makes a stand and ask Dayton to put up the netting asap after this latest injury.

Thank You for all the kind words, my husband is doing good, just a little sore, all scans and xrays came back fine, we are glad it was him and not one of the smaller children that run around there playing. We would like to thank our coaches for keeping our daughter going on the field and the other parents, coaches and Shorty for theyre help.

My family really appreciates everyones kind words.

Kudos to Kayla...pitching is tough all by itself, seeing your dad injured behind the backstop while you are pitching (and pitching well) had to be nearly impossible...she impressed all of the parents and girls on the OUTCASTfastpitch team!!!

Give this a little publicity to the local paper. Title it "Children at Risk at local ball field" and explain the situation above. A letter to the editor or the local sports director on how the city is dragging their feet to get this installed. Also, copy your email to the Director of the parks board their in Dayton.

Bet that gets their attention real quick. ;) You can all talk about it here or you can do something about it now. I would but I live in Texas. Would be best coming from the injured party or one of you other parents that lives in that area.

Glad to hear your not injured seriously.
