I wanted to make you aware of our plans for the 2005 Sunraze Slam. Last year we had great weather featuring many quality teams. This year we are limiting the field to 36 teams. It is our desire to keep the tournament a size that allows us to provide you with an excellent product. We will hold a spot for any team prior to 1/1/2005. After that date, it is on a first come first serve payment basis.

This is a link to our web site:

Please check out the Olympic softball items that we are GIVING away.

This will be a fun tournament for your players. In closing, please see some notes from last year's tournament.

Dan Selle

John Deluca, State Director for the National Softball Association stated that (he) ?has never been part of a more organized 1st year tournament.?

?To all that did not attend. The fields were in great shape for every game, the park was clean and organized with plenty of room to warm-up. The parking was handled professionally with a shuttle from the overflow lot. The Sunraze organization did a great job top to bottom. All the SUNRAZE players and parents worked hard to make this an enjoyable tournament.? (North Ohio Heat, Hiram, Ohio)

A Kirtland School Board member wrote ?Great job Dan?. first class event?.

?The City of Kirtland should be proud of the goodwill your tournament generated. Teams from Sandusky to Akron, to Ashtabula were given a taste of Kirtland?s hospitality. An excellent impression was left on all of them?. (Starzz, Willoughby, Ohio)

?Congratulations on a very well run and enjoyable tournament for the girls!? (Zapps, Concord, Ohio)

?Dan, you ran a wonderful tournament. All of our compliments and thanks to you and your organization. It was great!? (Revere Rage, Akron, Ohio)

?Our organization would just like to thank you and all those that were responsible for such a nice weekend. The tournament was a very organized, well-run tournament and we greatly appreciated it. Thanks for all your hard work in making this weekend a success. Thanks again for a great weekend.? (Sliman?s Dodge Girls, Amherst, Ohio)

?The Sunraze organization did a fantastic job. The extras (Carla, finch video and give-aways, batting and fielding) were one of the things that set your tournament apart from the rest. Your availability to answer questions is something not always done at other tournaments.? (Sundogs, Elyria, Ohio)

?Just wanted to send a quick note to say thanks for a great tournament. You made the weekend both challenging and enjoyable for the girls.? (Thunder & Lightening, Mentor, Ohio)

Hats off to Valley Extreme. The coaches and parents from this organization worked on fields at the community center as if they were the host. Thanks for your help Valley Extreme, No games would have been played at the community center without you.

Good job Valley Extreme and Akron Saphires for making it to the championship game. Its ashame you did not get a chance to play the ship. I know how frustrating it must be to work hard all day and not get to play. There was NO reason the tourny hosts could not have planned better after the rain on Saturday to get all the games in. Good luck in future tournaments. I was at the community center and saw Valley Extreme working on fields. I hope you at least got a Thank You. My daughter wants to try out for your organization, I agree, what a class organization.

In the 12U semifinals the Akron Sapphires beat the Tidal Waves and the Valley Extreme beat Slimans PT Cruisers. ?Unfortunately the two finalists couldn't play as we were suppose to have access to lighted fields to play the championship but were told that field was no longer available and so both the Extreme and Sapphires were made co-champions after a couple of long days. ?The weather had some impact ?to the schedule and the championship game in which otherwise was a good tournament. Congrats to the Valley Extreme and Akron Sapphire teams on having a great tournament.

After reading several post about thanking my parents for getting the field ready at the community center and other parents commenting on our organization and team. What I would really like to say to the tournament director is better left unsaid! All I can tell you is my girls as well as other 12u girls played hard on sunday. My girls woke up at 5:40am to be there by 7:00am in order to play at 8:00am and 9:30am for the first of two pool games that weren't played saturday. We then played again at 5:00 pm and at 7:00pm with the promise of a 10:00 championship under the lights, which I believe is every kids dream. All I ask of a tournament director is to be honest to my girl, players and coaches as well. I hope the promise of a same size trophy and gold medallions for my players holds up since they were made co-champs. They certainly didn't play for 2nd place hardware or deserve it. We will see.

On Sunday night I had thoughts of posting my true feeling about how this tourney ended, but cooler heads have prevailed!!!

I want to thank Bob ( sorry never got your last name) the site director at the Community Center. With NO HELP( except for my parents) on Saturday you were left to fix a rain soaked field. If we could have HAD ANY dring agent at the field and then get more than 3 bags we most likely could have played sooner, but thats a fact 3 bags!!!
Bob on Sunday I didn't reallize that you not only ran the site ,but also managed the 12U Sunraze team. I made a statement to you in the heat of our discussions about" they (tourney director, State NSA Director and others) left you on an island."

Promises were given and not KEPT. Its over, but we did get ANOTHER PROMISE of equal 1st place trophy and medals (16) for my players and coaches. Funny thing is that both trophies had CHAMPS on them!!!! The small one should have said runner-up.
