Cost is what it is, as parent you need to make sure your getting bang for your buck. Most don't then want to complain about it on here. At the older levels(13) your going to need a hitting coach and pitchers are usually already going to a pitching coach. We don't set the cost of the showcases and you not going to them isn't going to help your cause in the recruiting process. Most of the bigger showcases are stay to play so they get you coming and going. But like I said find out were you get the most bang for your buck don't be a sheep. If you can only take lessons with that coach or another in that org that's a red flag if you have to work carnival rides to off set your fees there's s red flag. If you have to pay a recruiting fee or large sum for a organization fee that's a red flag. My fees are $900 I'm in the same showcases as all the other Organizations in what I'd call the upper tier. I do hitting for no cost so if you don't like it then go pay someone else your choice, I get my girls recruited at no charge I take on that responsibility when I ask them to play for me and I take that personally that's why I've gotten all 21 kids who have played for me done I did say all 21. You have a coach who coaches multiple teams red flag unless older team is all committed. I could keep going but I hope you understand where I'm coming from I don't think it has to cost that much not in my eyes.

Perfectly said! It was an investment that paid off big time! Not having to pay for college is a big relief! If she would have not played travel ball and we saved that money? Not even close to the amount or cost college would have been! The money we spent on travel ball in three , four years saved would only be about one year tuition, room, board and books! Plus, she would have never been seen by college coaches and as a D-1 college coach in PA that was recruiting her said "She is well known in the Ohio travel ball circuit ..."
Is it a garentee? No way!
But I don't agree with the post saying "How are Ohio teams dealing with the "problem"? What problem?
You as a parent have to make a non biased decision if you think she is good enough to play and be desired at the college level AND "what level / Division is realistic."
The travel organizations and coaches
You choose will be a huge factor in that investment paying off! Other factors were also HUGE! Like... current, past & other opposing travel ball coaches ( thanks Mark S., Tim S., Ed R., Tim & Christy G., Tim A. & Missy K!) for helping and making contacts and opportunities!!! The upper tier travel teams will help any girl! That's why they do what they do!

Why don't coaches provide a financial statement during the year and at the end of the year. Is it an insult to ask for this? I say it should not have to be asked for. It should be provided automatically.

If you do a search this has been discussed many times.

Most coaches keep a ledger, or at least they should. I can tell you in 10 years around travel ball I have never been given a financial statement automatically. I think most are more than willing to share this with you. I do agree it can be awkward to ask for it, however its not inappropriate to do so.

I think, like a lot of stuff in club ball, its not what you say rather how you say it. If a ledger is important to you, ask about it at the start of season as how the books are kept and whether they are shared with families. Don't wait until the end of the season.

If the team or organization is a 501c3 they better keep track of their incoming monies and payouts.
We had info ready at tryouts. Fall expenses, winter expenses, spring/summer events.
It was all broken down so parents knew what their balances were. We required a deposit when the lady came on board and gave parents a couple dates to make the balance paid in full by. Parents received a monthly statement so they knew what they owed and where the money went.

Things have changed a a ton since we had a team. Several are using paypal now so,parents can pay with a credit card.
