I have a lot of respect for a coach that is willing to be a complainant. This administrative suit will take a lot of Coach Rodenberger's time and I am sure that he will catch a lot of flack from fans of boys sports, since those sports might receive less funding and resources in the future if the Office of Civil Rights decides that the disparities need to be addressed.
The story rang too familiar to me. I raised similar issues to Mount Vernon High School and the School Board when our daughter attended there, but nothing was ever done. The varsity field is constantly under water, there is no scoreboard, no PA system, and only very limited bleachers directly behind home plate. The varsity baseball field, on the other hand, just four or five years ago replaced its existing press box/PA facility with a block cement two-story deal that includes concessions. And the boys bleachers are probably three times as large and offer unimpaired views of play.
Of course, when you are an active coach or a parent of an active daughter, it's very hard to push the issue without suffering retaliation. Looks like Rodenberger decided to solve that problem by resigning. I'm sure that was a hard choice for him. From his record, it looks like the girls lost a good coach.

Actually, they aren't taking the story down. The software for the softball forum has been screwed up for at least a week. Sometimes when you reply, it sends the thread to the second page rather than to the top of the third page. Huddlestaff says they don't know how to fix it, which really surprises me. Anyway, I think they removed my reference to the story because the thread came back to the top, but then it went back to page 2 a little later. [smiley=huh.gif]
