I am coordinating "A" team tryouts in our rec league and I am looking for some type of assessment form that you all may be using at your tryouts.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I have found that you can tell in two minutes or less if a player is coachable and weather or not she can play the game of fastpitch softball. All of the other stuff is fluff. Not useless information, just fluff. Players can always be spotted.

I always like to ask a girl to try something different in a swing, catch, just something a little different. If she tries with full effort, she is coachable. Then you got a ball player, and prey the parents dont think you are a moron yet. "you know all travel coaches are"

the form should be a matirx file so that you can see all the girls you are trying out at one time on one page... flipping thru pages is so hard. It makes it easier to compare notes. we had 70 tryout at 16u last year. you also need the info so that when you talk to the parents and they ask why DD didn't make team you have that info handy as well.

I alway teach at our tryouts to see who is listening and learning as well.

the most important tool is a ..... stopwatch. 2.8 or less home to first and you are on my team!
