** tryouts: Q&a **

I have some questions/suggestions for posting tryouts. Not trying to sound negative, by no means, but maybe these things would help with what tryouts players would even want to attend. This could benefit both the players and the teams. I think that by organizations/teams answering these questions, it would benefit both the players and the teams by not wasting time at tryouts. By answering these questions it may also gain more attendance at tryouts or even cause player turnover during the season to be reduced. I see so many posts for tryouts, but really no info concerning the teams or organizations. So PLEASE, if you are having tryouts, copy these questions and paste in your response. If you have several age groups, try and give all the info.
THANK YOU!!

Organization Name:

Age group(s):

Fees:

Fundraising (offered / mandatory):

Practice Location (base city or area):

Tentative 2010 Schedule (how many out of state tourneys):

Current Season record:

How many returning players?

What positions are you looking for?

Who will be coaching?

Will you be playing in the fall?

If playing fall, will it be tourney or league?

What type of winter or ANY training will there be?

Many teams (organizations) hand out this information at their tryouts, at least that is my experience. Some of the stuff you mentioned is relevant and some is not. As far as how many players are moving up well that is really an unknown until the tryouts. What if 10 players from a team tells their coach that they are coming back and then 4 of them actually show up because the other 6 players and one of the Dads started a new team. Well then I guess that everyone who looked at the tryout information and seen that 10 players were moving up maybe checked that one off of their list. By the way, isn't every spot up for grabs every year? maybe not.

Another suggestion, consider using the gmap tags to put a map in your tryout notice:

[coden][gmap=Site name]Street Address, City, State, Zip[/gmap][/coden]

for example:
[coden][gmap=Thomas Worthington High School]300 W Dublin Granville Rd, Worthington, OH 43085[/gmap][/coden] yields:
[gmap=Thomas Worthington High School]300 W Dublin Granville Rd, Worthington, OH 43085[/gmap]
