Wanna hear some thoughts on this.

Played in U18 division of Sheer Madness this past weekend.

We have a D1 pitcher on our roster.

While she went to a D1 school, she did not pitch at all her freshman year of college.

She threw a pool play game and the other team went ballistic about it.

She threw a bracket play game and the other teams coach, after the game was over, was so mad he told our coach “he would do everything he could to run up the score on us any time we faced them”

Is there some kind of U18 etiquette that says kids who play/pitch in college should not play travel ball?

I am really curious about this. Is there some unwritten rules where college pitchers, who are age eligible, should not play their last year of U18?

Sore losers.... I had a player play for me who was a D1 player who hit 11 h.r.'s at the 18u state in Lancaster IN 7 games one year and got the same reaction from a couple disgruntled coaches. We had crowds staying watching our games because of her.

maybe he was mad cause softball is 18u, soccer is U18.

if she's age eligible, tough. let her play.

There are some tournaments, e.g. Stingrays, where they say no players who have appeared on a college roster. I do not believe Sheer Madness is one of those.

Depends on the rules of the tournament.

A lot of showcase type events do not want committed players so as to not waste college coaches time and to give opportunities for those looking to be picked up.
If this was just a regular sanctioned or non sanctioned 18 and under tournament I would not give anyone complaining the time of day honestly at that age players should be able to play with just about anyone if they are halfway decent.

Any coach that would be upset because the opposing team had a pitcher their team couldn't hit needs counseling.

What the hell!!!!

It doesn't matter what tournament or the format. Good God, if she's that good and didn't even get to pitch her freshman year, how flipping good are the ones that are pitching? lol.

Seriously, the Kid needs to be applauded for her efforts and playing the game she loves. Losing coaches should be respectful of her efforts and use the experience to point out to his hitters they need to step up their game or they'll never make it to that level. My guess is this kid was playing for this team of friends and a coach she likes. No need to be bitter. Learn from it and move on.

It's good for the sport. That's bigger than one coach's game. They need the etiquette lesson!

There's plenty of teams with 1st year college athletes that played in Sheer Madness. D1 D2 d3 NAIA JUCO, its all college softball. We played a few really good teams with returning 03 players all of which played at big schools. 1 team had Big 10 players. Our staff and our Athletes got excited. Lets see how we stack up. Won both those games.
Our Athletes welcome and want to compete against the best. They are heading off to college in the fall and want to be as prepared as possible before they get there.

Any coach b*tching about a kid playing D1 and playing in a showcase/ tournament that allows it needs to just go home.

I think they are looking for excuses for their failures. There are those people who always have someone to blame. Sometimes it's entire teams. And even whole countries.
You've made an enemy, but now you'll try to win on principle, even when your D1 pitcher leaves. Good luck!
