UC Softball

As a resident of central Ohio and former student of UC (Cincinnati) I always like to see the Buckeyes and the Bearcats win. During football season I like to see Notre Dame lose, atleast while Brian Kelly is still there...
It irritates me to pass a UC sign on my way to work and know there is no softball program there. How can a baseball town not have a softball program at the closest major University? Is there a club team there? How about plans to start a program? Is this the type of thing keeping UC from joining a bigger conference?

I have wondered the same thing. The UC Clermont Branch has a softball team but no team at main campus. There is a baseball team at main campus. Does the branch softball team meet title 9? Overall UC has very few varsity sports for a D1 school and I think this does hurt when it comes to conference membership.

2013-2014 is the 1st year for CLUB softball at UC. Hopefully it is on the way to becoming a varsity sport soon.

UC main campus has 17 sports and more women's sports than men's sports (one more). Men have baseball, Women have La-X. Title IX satisfied.....

They have brought in an experienced former D1 coach for their CLUB softball team. Hopefully with this move we will see a Varsity Softball team in the next couple of years.

A club team is definitely a move in the right direction. Is there a softball diamond on campus?

This is just hearsay...I was speaking with a la-x player recently. She said there are discussions going on as to how and when UC could add softball to their varsity sports program.

No way it could be that soon. Duke announced the addition of softball in December...doesn't start until 2018. Facilities will be a problem for UC. Will have to build off campus.

As a UC grad, I would love to see it. Not sure how the conference will end up. Louisville and Rutgers will be gone. Not sure about UConn. That leaves 5 or 6 teams with softball in the AAC plus whoever they are adding next year. It might be more doable for Xavier. 8 of 10 big east teams have softball. Only Xavier and Marquette do not. If the Bid East adds Dayton that would be 9 softball schools. That being said, I think softball could help UC get in one of the bigger conferences down the road.

I would love to see a program started at UC. I still have a few years before my kids are in college.
I noticed Xavier also does not have a softball program. These are huge missed opportunities for fastpitch kids in SWO. I know there is some great programs there. (Hey Joe, I'm trying to show some respect for SWO)
