Now that the College World Series is all over ESPN, can we finally graduate to where the announcers will actually provide color and not just fluff? You would think this was the Little League World Series.

Jessica Mendoza or whoever it is on the Michigan-Louisville game right now was just beside herself that Michigan's pitcher knew immediately where to throw the ball after she caught a line drive. There was one runner on base, on first. Can you imagine an announcer in college baseball being incredibly excited that a pitcher knew where to throw the ball after catching a line drive with one runner on base? The incessant gushing over routine plays and basic knowledge shortchanges the players. Save it for when it's warranted and point things out when they are done incorrectly.

Girls, my advice if you want to learn the game at all from watching TV is to watch the MLB Network each night. Much of the info is transferable to softball and the analysis is fantastic. Watch the studio show each night with Harold Reynolds, Mitch Williams, etc. You will learn more in one night than watching 20 games of the softball College World Series.

And how 'bout when some pitcher is throwing heat and a right handed batter puts one in right field - then Mendoza gushes about how good the hitter is to be able to go opposite field with a runner on third.

No, she was about 10 degrees of bat rotation away from strike 3! 9 out of 10 times, the player will say they just wanted to but the bat on the ball.

Joe's right, but I don't watch it to learn. I'm watching kids like Britt Duncan and others that I have got to watch play over the years. Plus former coaches like coach Larabee . Tough to have to play the same team 3 times.
