All,

We have not had the interest in the tournament that we hoped for. For the past week or so we had been debating whether to cancel it or not. Unfortunately we have decided to cancel it. We decided to do it now so that the few teams that were interested can have time to find other tournaments.

Sorrry for any inconvience this may have caoused anyone.

To help us plan for hosting a tournament in the future, I would appreciate it if any one who was considering this tournament let us know why you were interested in this tournament? Was it because of the PONY berth, a convient location for your team or other reasons.

Conversely why not.

Thanks
Nick Gill

Our team did not schedule any tournaments for that weekend due to high school graduations and several school trips.

Having the Columbus NSA on the same weekend did not help either.

I believe the best opportunity for a new Central Ohio tournament would be in September. ?There is currently only one other tournament, the Ohio Classics, in Central Ohio in the fall. ?If you held a tournament, say 2 weeks prior to the Classics, then teams would have another tournament in Central Ohio to see what they have in their new team. ?I know that our team would love to have another local fall tournament.

Having a fall tournament would also give you a jump on 2008 fundraising.

Excellent post Bill, as I agree a second fall tournament (early to mid September) in the Central Ohio area is much needed!!! Also being a qualifier at this time of year is a non factor, as the key is to market your tournament early and often, to attract as many high profile teams as possible...good competition is the key here. Advertise and update your tournament info on both OFC and JJ Huddle, as communication is another key to success.

I know that if Danny Taylor is still involved, he completely understands that most teams want to be challenged and wants to play the best competition out there. This is why the "Fall Classics" Tournament in Pickerington has become such a huge success!!! Great teams attract other great teams. There were many softball fans at this tourney that had no affiliation with any team, just wanted to watch some of the best teams around the state.

If you have access to a printer, print out a couple hundred flyers and pass them out to all the coaches, parents and players of your local feeder programs at Teays Valley and Circleville. Create excitement in the communities and make it a joint effort if possible, you know Woody Hayes always said "you win with people". Advertise it as a "End of year Softball Celebration". This not only serves attendence but also gets future travel players/parents excited on what is out there, which will hopefully serve your H.S. programs on down the line. Plus it may keep them away from the dreaded Soccer people...lol.

If this was to happen in 2007 you would most likely want to secure a date as soon as possible and start promoting it as much as possible. Good luck and if you any further questions feel free to give me a e-mail or phone call. :) :) :)

I will tell you another great week would be the same week as Stingrays Tournament. This would give teams that dont get invited to the Stingrays Tournament another option that is still close. There are not many tournament choices that week obviously because of the Rays Tournament , but not everyone can get in.I also agree another qualifier at end of the softball season would be good too!
