Weirdest Season Ever !!!

At our first official practice this season, I noticed the girls in the outfield were VERY distracted by something off of the field. Myself and the other coaches walked to the edge of the grass in center field and saw what the major distraction was.
A HUGH HOT AIR BALLOON right at the top of the trees that lined the field!!!
The gentleman at the controls of the Balloon shouted "DROP THE BAT AND GRAB THE BASKET", I just stood there in shock, Again he shouted "DROP THE BAT AND GRAB THE BASKET". I finally realized that he was shouting at ME!!! I dropped the bat that I was leaning on and started running towards the Balloon!!! He very calmly shouted "AS SOON AS THE BASKET LANDS, JUMP OVER THE EDGE OF THE BASKET AND PUT ALL OF YOUR WEIGHT ON THE SIDE." I am happy to say that although the Hot Air Balloon landed with a little bit of a jolt that everyone was safe and sound.

The next adventure was this past Weekend our 16u team had a Double header scheduled for our Fall Ball season. During the First game the wind was CRAZY, It continuously blew over the 12 foot long bench in the dugout!!! The second game was cancelled due to EXTREMELY HIGH WINDS!!!

I have been Coaching for quite a while and thought that I had seen it all. But I can honestly say that I have never had a practice end due to an Emergency Hot Air Balloon landing, ON THE FIELD!!! or had a game cancelled due to a HURRICANE!!!

I can't wait to see what the rest of the '09 Season has in store for us!!!

Stay Tuned.

There was so much dust kicking up and blowing, we were all caked with softball dirt. My oldest DD's teeth were practically covered from the dirt, I thought she was going to start talking in a british accent!!! :D

I kept my ipod on so the headphones could stop my hair from blowing every which way while coaching 1st and I'm pretty sure I'll never get the grime out of the unit. Fortunately it is still working.

Our opponent did not want to cancel the second game. We won the toss and decided to bat first. After they got out there and got sand blasted they changed their mind and we never played the first pitch.

I think that we still have diamond dust in places that it shouldn't be.

on most of our fields all the nice dirt was gone all we had to play was hard ground underneath us; the week after the storm hit.

The weirdness continues!!!
We were at the field the other day and a large goose tried to fly under the tree for some reason. The goose made it under the tree and flew directly into the chain link fence and then directly into DD's HEAD. :lmao:

A couple of years ago, we were in the middle of a game at a park. A large van pulls to the edge of the outfield (no fence) and proceeds to set up and inflate a hot air balloon. This was a 12U game and needless to say it was very hard to keep the outfielders attention!

That makes sense. You need hot air to lift a balloon and you can get that from the bleachers... :lmao:

Before the HS season began, the wind picked up the bleachers and slammed them into the back stop, knocking the whole HS regulation sized backstop to the ground. Those Hurricanes need to stay in Fla.:lmao::lmao:
