with all this hype and excitement about playing in a few weeks..... what about your players arms? how many weeks and months do you usually practice before letting loose on a 5 game plus weekend? and now... we are going to put them out there in 2 weeks roaring to go... or are they? I can see after 1 weekend sore... after 2nd weekend real sore..... maybe need down time sore.

Just saying coaches parents. i HOPE your DD is out there throwing everyday. long toss helps strengthen the arms... need some game type situations and take it slow. dont just jump in there and end up hurting your kid!!!

Dan I have instructed my Athletes to set up a net and throw into the net if they don’t have someone to throw with.
I agree with you on this. We could be looking at some sore athletes if they are not working on their arm/ throwing before a practice/ games.
We will be holding our first team practice May 30-31st weekend and will ease into everything and try to ramp up the tail end of the second day with a scrimmage.
It’s gonna be tough because normally we are getting them back and working with some of the girls from school ball that picked up bad habits. Now it’s all on the girls and parents. As coaches we can only do so much via Zoom, FaceTime, and text.
I guarantee I have a girl or 2 that hasn’t done a thing since all this has happened. But I also know I have 10 that have been working their butt off to stay in shape and hone in their skills.
Main thing will be throwing and the team chemistry. Getting them to flow on the field together.

I think it will the reps in practices that cause most of overuse soreness. Initial practices will be sloppier than before. Going to be hard to shutdown practices to save arms when there’s so much to work on.

this is a great topic. I hope all kids that play any sport have been staying active. It’s been very easy for them to sit in front of a tv and eat snacks this whole time. Not just their shoulders to worried about, it’ll take a min to get their legs back also.
