Hello OFC'ers.....my DD just finished playing 18u this year and we are now looking to the next level. I know of 23u but have just recently heard of 18+...? I need some imput as to the 18+ division, which would be better 18+ vs 23u and a trny list of both age divisions would be awesome! I welcome any thoughts, input and or advice.

Thanks

18+ is generally listed as 18O and is the USSSA designation, 23U is the ASA/NSA designation. Most of teams in that age group tend to bounce between the two. You'll also find several Non-Sanctioned events that use ASA, NSA or USSSA rules. Here on OFC the tournament list uses the 23U designation for both. I'm up in Toledo at the Wizard Wind Down which is an ASA event, but they've waived the upper age limit for 23U effectively making it 18O.

My DD played in some of both. USSSA 18 and over meant just that , her catcher was 28 yrs old and the 1st baseman was breast feeding between games !!. I see 23u getting more popular as the sport grows and players like your DD wants to continue playing. But as of now, there isnt much out there.

Cincy Static is having an 18O team in 2013.
Made up mainly of former players that are now in college playing... Looking to play 4 summer tournaments and "maybe a league night" in Cincy if it takes off.

SEAA WS inTN, Midwest WS in Col. OH, BeaverCreek 18O, Keith Carver 23U Memorial in Maysville Ky, Wizard wind down and there are about 7 others through the summer in Ohio, Indiana and KY that are worthwhile and keep the ladies playing in the summer...

I think there is going to be more opportunities for the older teams over the next few years....

Think I've run into about 40 23u/18o teams this summer alone, and we've only gone to 4 tournaments. Pretty much a 23u/18o tournament every weekend if you want to play, but I've found that most 23U/18o teams prefer to play between 2 and 4 tournaments - just enough to keep the rust off, but allow time for other activities and commitments.

Would be nice to find the 23u Major type tournaments here, most of that caliber is in Ill, Would be nice to see that kind of ball played local, or at least state wide.

After the 55-65 games that college kids play, and everything that goes with it, a lot of them just want a break from softball for a while.
