Why I think first day of coaching the full squad should have been 2/22

This is not meant to be a complaint, just an observation. And I realize that basketball isn't over for any school at that time. That said...

The time frame between the first day of coaching and when competition can begin differs from sport to sport but is very similar. For this school year:

Football: 8/3 first day of coaching; 8/24 season begins (21 days later)
Volleyball: 8/10 first day of coaching; 8/29 season begins (19 days later)
******: 8/10 first day of coaching; 8/24 season begins (14 days later)
Girls BB: 10/30 first day of coaching; 11/27 season begins (28 days later)
Boys BB: 11/6 first day of coaching; 12/4 season begins (28 days later)
Wrestling: 11/13 first day of coaching; 12/4 season begins (21 days later)

Softball: 3/8 first day of coaching; 3/29 season begins (21 days later)
Baseball: same as softball

Basically, everything is fairly close. Since we don't usually play football on Mondays, they actually have 4-5 more days before their first game.

So why should softball and baseball have 35 days, or at least the 28 days some sports get?

Because in every other sport, on day one, the players and coaches can actually properly practice, instruct and participate in their sport. Definitely not the case with softball and baseball. Most teams are having tryouts this week and they haven't even been on dirt yet. And if the weather hadn't warmed up recently, they literally might not have even seen dirt, let alone play on it.

Just a bored person's opinion.

I agree for this one reason..
Football and ****** are outside sports where you can practice from day one outside.
Basketball and wrestling are always inside..
Softball and Baseball (in this area) is a sport that you have to start inside where you are limited in what you can do, and may not get outside until your first scrimmage...jmo
