If you are talking womens baseball I say no.

I hardly watch a whole baseball game. Can you say slow and boring? Funny but once you have watched high level fastpitch baseball seems very boring and slow.

Tim ... interesting and it would be great ... unfortunately, this team disbanded in '97 and, in a brief search, I didn't find another professional team or league in the U.S., though Japan has a league which just recently signed it's first international player, an Australian. Sean, while I still do enjoy watching professional baseball, I have to agree with you that the speed of the fastpitch game can spoil you. I hate now when it can take so long between pitches with the throws to 1st, looks back, etc.

I agree - As a lifelong baseball fan I do enjoy the speed of Fastpitch better.
I still can not understand why there is not a real 'National' Pro fastpitch league (NPF not with standing) .
It seems to me if baseball fans watched a few games they would fall in love with it.
It's a faster paced and more exciting.

I always think of it; Softball is to Baseball as Rugby is to Football. A more fast paced wide open version.
but then again who other than me watches Pro rugby...

It's interesting to think about whether it's ever possible for pro fastpitch to take off and, if so, what it would take. I think there are a lot of obstacles, but I like to think many of them could be overcome.

One obstacle might be labeled as "sexism" and/or the belief many people have that women don't have as good as skills as men and that it's not as entertaining to watch, but I would argue there that this is different than say WNBA basketball. There, men and women are playing almost the identical game, but there are a lot more differences between baseball and fastpitch. Another obstacle can be if the lot of the potential fan base didn't play when they were growing up ... those of us older males played all of the 3 major U.S. sports growing up and dreamed of being pro players someday, while this didn't happen with our female classmates. There are admittedly a lot more male sports fans than females, but there is also no doubt that the fastpitch game has grown a lot in terms of participation over the last 10-20 years. But then you think about ****** where there has been a lot of youth participation for many years, and some of the interest in following the pro sport (primarily in Europe) is just starting to pick up a little.

Another thing that baseball has going for it is all of the tradition and records ... following some of the league's best players to see if they can bat .300, or hit 50 HR's, or win 20 games ... that's almost impossible to match in a newer pro sport, especially if there's not the media coverage.

Again, just interesting to think about ...

The first thing I thought was "You think there's a shortage of pitchers in fastpitch... What if you had to have 6-7 on each team ala MLB?"

;)

Louuuu ... MLB actually has about 12 per team. But on the same point, if there were the kind of professional options with women that there are with men, I bet that a lot more girls actually would be pitching! The bad news is ... I bet some of the parents would even be worse!
