Please comment on this video, Coach on Defense goes and has a discussion with the team at the pitching mound. Game Resumes and catcher jump out of the way and the ball hits the umpire. I've not seen the full video and not even aware if theirs a longer versions. What type of Coach would even dream of doing something like this.

Would really like to hear from BretMan2 on the rules side of this. Its very clear that the Home plate umpire and base umpire knew what the Coach told his players. I'm thinking that all the players that heard the Coaches discussion and the Coach himself should be toss out of the game.

That is crazy. Really makes you wonder what some people are thinking. Where did this happen at and when?

Yea been around for a while.. This is really one of the more disturbing videos about the nonsense in the sport. Think about what a position the pitcher or catcher was put into by that coach. I would like to think if my kid was a, pitcher or catcher, they would have not been a part of that. Gotta know the difference between right and wrong. I don't care if that ump called everything a ball, taking a direct pitch at 60+ MPH is dangerous and to knowingly hurt someone, potentially criminal. Who is most culpable and at what age should a kid know that is wrong? These girls were certainly old enough! Everyone get tossed! Head coach has charges sent to local prosecutor! The coach whether a part or not has a responsibility to teach the game the right way and to even show a propensity to be a part of that is intolerable. the girls should have received very harsh suspensions. What if something happened where the UMP was critically injured?

Deplorable...

Hard to watch the ump get hit like that and hearing the comments from the crowd was terrible. I hope the ump was ok. Some parents/coaches just take this stuff too far.

As I noted above, it happened in October 2013 in California.

This has been around a while. I too would like to hear BretMan speak on the rules for this action.

OP's video is a reposting of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lM0HzMOT4nc, which clearly shows it occurred Oct 5, 2013. The Bleacher Report article JWB posted has a link to a video of the entire game.

It wasn't widely known about until the beginning of December 2013. Here's the HB thread on it - Fork and Beans.

The catcher signed her NLI in between and subsequently lost her deal as a result. The pitcher is a 2015 and kept hers.
