The Kyle Softball Complex just North of Dayton has 12 Brick dust fields, new restrooms, 225 fences, no gate fee and field maint. ????

Kyle Softball Complex is a very nice park.... IMO, much nicer than Kettering Fields or Rowe

Rowe Sport Complex was a very decent place. Concession was decent, the toilet facilities were great (indoor, flush), the grounds were kept super all weekend, the teams and parents great. Hats off to whomever took care of that facility. My only complaint was the umpire staff. Even though this was the site of the 10U portion of this tourney, don't you think the umping crew should know 1.) a strike zone and 2.) the rules of playing this game. The umping was consistant for all...HORRID. There were way to numerous blunders by them. Just because it was 10U, it just is not acceptable to send totally inferior crews, way to many of these girls, at this level know the rules.

the ASA scheduler sends the crew. We do not pick them.

Besides all the negative about the tournament anyone see or watch any good teams or players that stood out?

Ohio storm 02 lasers white 02 and Mason Thunder 02 are all the real deal.

Lasers white made some plays that you can only shake your head at and they smash the ball.

The Awards that got handed out to the championship teams were very poor ! After 3 days of tough games and alot of money spent by people / families over the 3 day event. I would have thought there could have been more effort put into getting some nice hardware for the kids .... being asa/usa ...... my younger kids have got nicer awards from rec ball tourneys !!! jmho

Becca Carpenter P for Static North ... pitched her butt off against us till we squeeked it out.
3rd Baseman no. 16 for Cen.Ohio Vipers ... was a absolute vacuum, outstanding player.

But correct me if I am wrong, because I am wrong every once in a great while (lol), the temp fencing has nothing to do with City of Dayton, right?
It has everything to do with the City.. only the city is able to install anything on the complex that involves the fields and players due to an insurance liability issue... if a third party puts up a fence and it is install wrong and their is an injury - lawsuits will fly. we were told 2 years ago that we are not allowed to install any fencing -We priced out temp fencing - it was not allowed to be installed by us.

The port-a-johns are the absolute worst. Lots of great competition though and many nice people.
I AGREE... on Thursday we talked to the city and were assured that they would be cleaned out on Saturday.. never happened...

Then maybe it is time to look for a new location that will allow fences. Beavercreek does. Just a thought.

I absolutly understand and truly appreciate that fact. I was just stating, that they flat out ****ed. The rest of the tourney for 10 U was GREAT. Watched some really talented 10U's play very very well.

I agree. Some of the calls were questionable at best. I say that every weekend though LOL

I agree 100% with Andrew. If in reality you have no control over the fields including fencing and restrooms, you have to look at other avenues. You (ASA) can't keep putting on sub-standard events. It's hurting ASA and it's hurting this particular event. I went back and looked at last year's thread, and a lot of the same types of complaints, and ones that you don't see at other ASA/USA tourneys. It's great that JoeA's girls will be helping next year, but if you're stuck with the same fields and city situation, that's not going to resolve the primary issues. If I were recommending a schedule for a team for next year, I would avoid it again until I know that the location has changed. It would be interesting to see what happens if PGF decides to put on a big event that same weekend in that part of the state.

Watched some of the Ohio Storm 02 and Laser white 02 games on Sunday. Two very good teams!!! During one of the games I witnessed something that I had never seen before. One of the pitchers called time and asked the opposing team (LASER'S) to stop calling out her pitches to their batters!! LOL!! I say good for her and that was brave of her. Really we call pitches out on ten year olds LOL!!!!!!!:lmao:

Looking across the field the base pads were about 12-20" behind the pitching plate and looked long even after the changes.

Pitching plate placement was an issue in two of our games and the 8-10" rut was there in several of our games. Not sure about the circle either; seemed that a lot of 16-18 were 10" or more outside the circle with the landing.

The big infield and even bigger outfield impacted the games for sure. There were a lot of balls crushed that went for only doubles or long fly outs. There were also a lot of close plays / outs at first from the short game on well placed balls that I think the batter felt they would normanly have been safe.

A bright note for us at 18u was we did have decent umpiring, a lot of quality teams and college coaches at all the fields even on sunday when only 6 teams remained.
I agree with other posters that a change in venue may be in order if this is the best the City of Dayton can do. I have seen "much better" at local twp parks or other city parks.

16U Classics played very well in the games I was able to catch so did Tarter 16U Magic. 18U Ohio Northern Softball was stacked with talent. Not sure how many committed players were on the team but they were soild in all areas.

I have seen and heard more of teams doing this a lot this year. Seriously, what is the point of it? Are you helping your dd out by giving them the instant gratification of a possible hit? Wouldn't it be better long term to have them learn by themselves at the plate? I see catchers set up either inside or outside all the time on my dd. never have I said inside or out. It is counterproductive. She will be a better hitter being able to read it herself.

Totally agree with you!!!! I try to teach my daughter to look for the small changes a pitcher makes before pitching the ball... like messing with the ball in her glove a little longer before pitching a change up. She needs to figure it out on her own... and when she does she will be better for it!!!!!!

As for the calling out of pitches, I feel way different about it if you're talking about adults (parents/coaches) doing it vs. fellow players. I assume you're talking about adults ...

Andrew this one was bad. The dugout would scream Crush this change up mid pitch and BOOM bombs to the out field 4 times in a row. I dont agree with the coach telling his pitcher to say that to the coach. I dont think he should put a 10 year old in that spot. IMO

Jeff,
I don't want either doing it. She needs to learn on her own. I do however like when the batters are telling their team what they saw at the plate. It gets them thinking about it, so they can recognize tendencies for their next at bat. Just my 2 cents, and I am usually 1 cent short.
