Until THE ENTIRE softball community starts e-mailing ESPN and FOX to televise more softball in general you get what you get...little to no coverage unless it is TEAM USA or a World Series game.

There is no gate money for most womens sports so it goes to football and baseketball to raise the money and they get the TV coverage along with it.

We could do better if we backed the NPF and tried to make some of the games no matter what time of the year it is.

I went to an Akron Racers game this past weekend and came away very impresses with the players and the promotions during the game. If you like great fastpitch softball then you should plan on attending some games. Many familiar names from recent WCWS. Angela Tincher is one of the pitchers. She no-hit the Team USA with Virginia Tech.

The Racers schedule most of their home games for Wednesday through Saturday, so all of you who travel to tournaments on the weekends can still make it to a couple of games. Tickets aren't very expensive; $5 to $9 each. Check out the Racers website.

Last year while touring with the Chinese National team we played in Philly and Chicago and Akron....and the NPF owners really go out of their way to make it fan friendly with special promotions and special events aimed at the fans and the girls.

You can arrange to have your teams introduced with the players or be bat girls.

The players stay over and sign autographs and talk with your kids after the games and the concession prices are reasonable compared to even some of the tournaments you go to in my opinion.

Some can be contacted for private lessons also.

We have lost softball in the Olympics until at least 2016 and if it doesn't get better we may loose the NPF again for lack of fan support.

A local girl from WSU is playing for the Racers Jherica Williams and that is just one I know of.

Jenna Hall of the Philadelphia Force is the hitting coach for Ohio University during the off season.

Again in my opinion the owners really do try to make it fan and family friendly.

I'll second that. In dealing with the Racers staff the past couple years they do everything they can to make the outing enjoyable. The FIELD OF DREAMS promotion they have is awsome. The look on my 12u daughters face as she was told to go out on the field and find Cat Osterman is something money can't buy. And its not like a tribe game where they hang around for a couple seconds after the game to give autographs. They are truly there for the girls. Last year Cat was there for well over an hour, posing for pictures, giving autographs, listening to 1,000 stories of the girls recent games, always with a smile. Its a hometown feel, and one we seek out every chance we get during the week. Along with the FIELD OF DREAMS they have a meal deal that is $9 total. That includes a ticket, a hot dog, box of pop corn and a 20 oz. bottle of pop. For $9, are you kidding me!!!!!! You play more than that to park at a tribe game!!!!

At the Bandits game last year they brought in Mary Moore, Betty Francis and I think Peggy Fenton from a League of Their Own.

They signed autographs and balls and posed for pictures and many of the girls could not believe it was actually them the movie was made about....they thought they were all dead!

Support your NPF teams anywhere you go and take in a game or two.

The owners are approachable as to doing team things to get the girls involved.

Seems like the Slammers have played a couple of exhibition games before the Racers games....does anyone have a schedule of when they will be doing this again? I'd like to go, but being we are about 3 hours away, it doesn't help to find out the day of. :)

Is there an admission fee for the Slammers/Lasers?

Checked with the Racers and the following is the response I received:

Yes, they will need to buy a Racers ticket ($7.00) to get into the Slammers game and this will also get them into the Racers game. ?They will still need to buy a ticket even if they are not coming back for the Racers game. ?

The Lady Lasers Orange had a great time playing against the Slammers this afternoon before the Racers/Team Canada game. We had a slight rain delay and did not get an entire game in, but the Racers staff were more than accomodating and the field was in outstanding condition! It was a great experience for the girls!
