Those are certainly some great stats for both ladies, but I think the stat that says the most isn't listed. That's wins and losses, and Jordan Taylor was 29-3 on the year. That's one of the big reasons she is a finalist for player of the year.

Melloh also had an outstanding year at 32-15.

No comparison between the Michigan and the Indiana teams. Michigan has tons more talent and was supposed to win the Big 10 (4 straight I think), but IU more then likely wouldn't of even been a 500 team if Melloh hadn't transferred there. Just shows what an outstanding pitcher can do to make you a legitament team.

Taylor is 29-3 because she's a great pitcher and because she plays on a great team. Melloh is a great pitch and plays on a average team and that's why she's 32-15.

No arguments at all from me. I believe you hit the nail squarely on the head with the observation of Indiana having the season they did primarily due to Morgan Melloh.

I'm glad you agree. Especially since your DD and my DD over at K.I. right now riding rides together. I would've gotten in my car and picked J up:lmao:

Is Melloh a senior? And if she is it will be interesting to see what Indiana will do next year without her.

Yes, Morgan Melloh is a Senior. She was drafted number (7) by the NPF Diamonds (2011 Trade with Pride). I believe someone mentioned they have a young lady coming in from So Cal, but as far as I know they don't have anyone waiting in the wings.

Indiana doesn't have any proven pitchers returning because they're also losing the other experienced pitcher, Sara Olson (Sr). The 2 returning pitchers are Jessica Dobson (So, 21.0 IP, 3.00 ERA; Fr, 54.0 IP, 6.35 ERA) and Meaghan Murphy (Fr, 5.0 IP, 0.00 ERA).

Indiana has 2 pitchers coming in. The one from SoCal, Miranda Tamayo, has only pitched 2 innings for her HS this year (March 5) due to injury. I haven't heard any info about the injury.

I saw the other one, Lora Olson, pitch when her HS played out here in the Nike Faster to First tournament in March. She pitched well in a close 2-1 loss and then had to pitch the next game after 3 of the first 5 batters hit HRs off 2 of their other pitchers. They lost that game 9-1.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lora Olson
Hometown: Orland Park, Ill.
High School: Carl Sandburg High School
Position: Pitcher/First Base

Olson will be the third member of her family to attend Indiana and play softball for the Hoosiers, joining older sisters Anna (2005-08) and Sara who still pitches for the team. She helped lead her team as a pitcher to an undefeated season and a Class 4A State title in 2010 in addition to being ranked No. 12 nationally. Both the Chicago Sun-Times and the Southtown Star named Olson to the All-Area Team that same year and she garnered all-conference accolades as well. During her sophomore year, she led Sandburg to a sectional title after earning a conference crown her freshman season. As a member of the Travel team Beverly Bandits, she won gold 2009-2010. In 2010, Olson competed in the ESPN Premier Girls Fastpitch National in Huntington Beach, Calif.

Lora is the daughter of Jeff and Annette Olson and has one brother, two sisters and is undecided on a major at Indiana.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Miranda Tamayo
Hometown: Huntington Beach, Calif.
High School: Mater Dei
Position: Pitcher

Tamayo has been a standout pitcher for Mater Dei High School, and last year as a junior she posted a 1.17 ERA and 117 strikeouts in 101 innings pitched on her way to conference pitcher of the year accolades. She was also named to a pair of all-tournament teams during the season and helped Mater Dei capture their second consecutive Trinity League championship. As a freshman, Tamayo was named Rookie of the Year and second team all conference after leading Mater Dei to the first of three straight 20-win seasons. While playing with travelball with Strike Force, she helped lead them to a 25th place showing at ASA Nationals in 2010.

The daughter of Peter and Laura Tamayo, Miranda has two brothers and one sister. She is undecided on a major at Indiana.

Indiana senior Morgan Melloh was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Year.

Melloh is the conference's Pitcher of the Year after hurling every inning for the Hoosiers during the Big Ten season. She finished the conference season with a 1.07 ERA, posted a 17-3 record, and set the Big Ten record with 221 strikeouts during conference play. She had seven shutouts during the conference season and limited opponents to .155 hitting to become Indiana's first Pitcher of the Year since Gina Ugo in 1996.

I watched that SEC Championship game. Big girls is right. I wasn't sure if I was watching softball or sumo wrestling. :lmao:

Your right .... it looks like SEC teams are recruiting taller and bigger players. Pitchers are at least 5'9" and power hitters are slowly replacing slap hitters.

Here are some observations from a pitcher's dad who has watched as much SEC and Big Ten games as possible the last couple of years. I am no expert, just a fan, but I have come to some conclusions. The SEC, along with the Big 12 and Pac 10 are a cut (or more) above the BT. I know this is nothing new, but this season, the difference is striking. Even as far as watching a game, it was sometimes painful to watch BT teams play each other. Do you more expert observers think it was the level of pitching? Or a year when most of the teams were down? Even Michigan's 2nd pitcher wasn't very impressive, at least when I saw her pitch.
I think the success of Morgan Melloh and Indiana in conference play points up this fact.
Was anybody surprised at the quick exits of the Big 10 Teams in the NCAAs?
Any national field cred Michigan has must be plunging after getting handled by Tenn. and Ky. in consecutive years at THEIR home field.

I was also surprised by the lack of depth of talent in the OSU program. We like to think it is a big time program, and losing your top 2 pitchers deals a team a critical blow, but wouldn't you have thought Coach K would have had more options than her centerfielder (who didn't pitch too badly at times.) You had to feel for the rest of the players on the team, but at the same time, many times it looked like rest of the players mailed it in.
Am I alone in thinking this?
What Big 10 post mortems does any one else have?

So what ur saying in both post, talent is in ohio and maybe not out west? Stop sending ohio girls south? Maybe just maybe, they will get it.
