I had to lay-off 60% of my staff last week. Also losing 90% of my production. The reality is that if this lasts too long, we won’t be able to afford to travel this summer. Just a fact.
Now that may very well be a good point for many! Especially out of town events

In all honesty, its like the last thing people should be worrying about.

So how exactly would you know how worried anyone is about any of this?
And how would you know to what degree people are worrying about things? Maybe people just want a 10-minute break from everything to talk about something else? Maybe people are so tired of worrying about the "important stuff" and just want something to look forward to. In all honesty, being presumptuous and assuming the levels of concern people have over a post is ridiculous. Why people have to be like this is beyond me.

Exactly, I completely agree with AnotherSoftballDad. These are the same people who want the whole country to be shut down for an extended period of time, while our economy goes to crap. End result, people will lose their jobs, homes, more kids will go hungry, they won't be able to get proper healthcare.. and so on. Maybe after some of us are out there working on the front lines, risking exposure everyday, we would like to come home and talk a little bit of softball without being attacked for not taking this seriously. Just because some refuse to live in fear doesn't mean we aren't taking this seriously. We have to look at the larger picture here. What would an extended lock down do to our country? I fear the repercussions would be far worse than the damage this virus has done. That's what scares me. And what about self responsibility??? If I'm elderly or immuno-compromised, I would be putting myself in quarantine until this passes. That's why some of us need to be decent human beings and offer to help these high risk people so they can stay home.

We discussed alternatives for the girls if the tournaments start getting cancelled and came up with we think will be an option for most teams:

Why would you even think it’s ok to play Softball right now? It can wait till Summer. Smh. Unreal someone would even try to get people together right now. The health of our Athletes and Community is way more important than a weekend of softball.

Coaches and teams at this point better face the facts travel softball has changed and will be for the foreseeable future. There were parents on most every team living without to feed the softball monster before this crisis, but with people losing incomes there will not be extra money to go to out of town tournaments, pay for hitting, catching, nor pitching lessons. Maybe this year the teams should try and play closer to home less travel. How about if the earlier events are cancelled not finding another one later in the season or dropping a tourney and using the extra funds to help the less fortunate families to play in more events. Let's keep all the girls on the field together rather than just find a sub for a weekend.

And HTF do i get categorized with those "people" by what i said? And how did you geniuses get that im for shutting everything down ? You pretty much summed up my rationale yourself until the self indulgent bullshit at the end.
Fact of the matter is , there will be a better time to worry about your DD's softball, that will come, its just not right now. If you need therapy, go to your safe place.......

Over Reacting?? Right... People like you that don’t give a shit and think no big deal. That’s what’s wrong with this country. Wanting to put Kids and and families health in danger for the All Mighty Dollar. SMH.

China isn’t even back to normal yet and it’s been over 2 months. My office and myself deal with China daily and they are still crushed over there contrary to what you think or believe. This Virus is serious and real.

I’m not saying we live in fear but instead we do the right things as a community and Nation to help slow this down. Having a Friendly in May isn’t helping. But I’m sure you really care about the health and safety of the Athletes and their Families.

Look at some of your BEST Directors in Ohio. They have cancelled events through May. Shows me they care.

If I had a kid on a team and the coach told me the team would be playing a tournament in May then I would question if that coach really cares about the Athletes.

Stay Safe Everyone!

But...But...But... What about that scholarship that my DD's travel coach promised that she would get this year??????

This was said in jest of course.

However, I have come across some parents that I quite sure would be OK with hundreds of innocent people dying if it got their kid a scholarship. :(:(:(

Long Baller, I literally just had this conversation with someone the other day. Couldn’t agree w you more. You and I both could probably pick a few out that deep down that’s all they are worried about instead of the health of their community or even kid.

This will all pass with time once we all do the right things to slow this down. THEN we can get back to normal and softball every weekend. Until then my family and my Athletes and their families health is priority to me. Live life and follow the guidelines they ask of us. We will be on the diamonds before you know it.

Hope you ALL Stay Safe.

People who say they know what is going to happen in May are full of it. You can turn the TV on at any time and hear a bunch of different visions of the future, most of them are going to be wrong. There is nothing wrong with planning for games in May. It is as simple as picking up the phone and cancelling if things stay bad.

If you listened to the TV today, Deborah Birx said this could come in three waves...now, next Fall, and next Spring. People will return to normal and adjust as new data comes out. We might have to get used to the idea of getting back to normal and then going into shutdown every few months if her outlook comes true.

I'll side with those that say there will be Summer ball. I also think there is a chance that some softball will be played in May.

The dates we are putting together don't start until May and obviously its pretty easy to respect fellow organizations, coaches and parents wishes since it is a sign up. This is just something we put together early in case the general feel is clear by May.
I don't see anything wrong with scheduling an event in May... actually good to see some optimism! If we can cancel events last minute for rain, we can do the same if public health experts still deem it necessary to avoid these types of events once we get closer to the date. Good luck Fire Fastpitch!

Well it look like nothing until May now. Just listen to 610 radio and they said trump has extended the social distance until the end of April. I don't think anyone didn't see that coming. I guess now will have to see what DeWine does for the state.

Assuming teams haven't been practicing, how long will it take teams to get back into shape playing tournaments once the bans are lifted. say 5 to 7 practices?

I can say we have been following our girls on social media and seeing the work they have been putting in at home. I think a lot of Varsity coaches still have hopes of a season happening so they have sent workouts out for the girls before they got shutdown. We as travel coaches sent workouts out before they went back to their school ball coaches so the girls have used both workouts at home. Now I am just speaking for the Athletes I coach. I see they are putting in the work at home and still posting their workouts and tagging everyone they need to tag.

hopefully all the Athletes and parents care and they are putting in that work.
