I think a lot of parents do get caught up in the my dd plays varsity, the same as they get caught up in providing them with the best phone, car or clothes. Some parents seem to think it is a reflection on them it is not always the kids worrying about what other people think. JMHO

BTW Semperfi....this is an excellent topic. I don't know you, but I get the feeling you get all this and is merely starting some conversation. For some reason, I highly doubt you are badgering the High school coach lol.

Good luck to your DD on the upcoming year and take some time to smell the roses...in the blink of an eye it will be senior day.

Let me add one more thing ...as a parent that was lucky enough to be a close part of all of my DD`s HS softball career, it goes by VERY VERY VERY fast.... Stop and enjoy it while it lasts, You can never get your HS days back ..as a Kid or as a parent of a student athlete... make it memorable

You know High school coaches must have some kind of machine that stops time, I mean for them to have all this time to meet with parents, meet with specialty coaches, meet with players, coach each kid the way their specialty coach is teaching them, learning all the different specialty coaches terminology just so each kid feels comfortable, coach the team, set the game schedule for 2 and sometimes 3 teams, set the practice schedule for 2 and sometimes 3 teams, take care of their field, take classes like CPR/First aid and when all that is done....they get to coach THEIR team!!!

Get a grip helicopter parents :)

:lmao::lmao::lmao:love this! And yes, it all goes by very fast. Enjoy!

We have special seats on our field outside the centerfield fence in the cornfield for our helicopter parents to sit durning the game. :lmao:

harley78..have no idea who you are and I never like making negitive coments but I hope you were joking when you said "all parents want there dd to be on varsity as a freshman it makes the parents look good" This is the WORST attitude to have as a parent..... it should always be about the KIDS not the parents you should be PROUD of your DD no matter what she plays Freshman, JV or Varsity....its NOT how it makes YOU look but how your DD enjoys her HS years...jmho

Your exactly right not all parents feel that way but there are some , as was stated earlier in the forum some one had travel snobs in there thread and thats the parents that i feel think like that , in know way was i trying to offend anyone ,and as far as the dd enjoying herself on which ever team she plays on and being proud of her i truly believe in that. Like the your honesty 643dp.

I agree with 643dp and as a parent of a HS player, I really don't care if DD plays JV or V. She had a blast last year on JV and a lot of that had to do with the coach. He was was great with the kids, taught them a lot, had the praise and gratitude of all of the parents. Great experience.

If every coach and team were like that, I would guess interfering parents would become a non-issue. Unfortunately, not all teams or coaches are like that. Maybe kids are getting pickier, spoiled, or just better and more confident. But when a coach's ego starts becoming detrimental to a player and program, parents get concerned because that's not in the best interest of the school or the players. And that's where I know a lot of parents start getting involved (and from a coach's perspective - over involved).

I've always seen most parents being supportive and helpful to a coach and a program that helps their kid develop as a player and a young lady.

I know Semper and I guarantee he is NOT badgering any coaches. I can't imagine Emily disrespecting a HS coach or any other coach for that matter and if she did, she wouldn't be walking away with teeth still in her mouth!!! She better sign up for jsoftballdad's Knock Your DD's Teeth Out of Her Mouth Insurance!! :lmao::lmao::lmao: Some people are pretty clueless!!!:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Yeah! :lmao: Nice one KLUMP, semperfi would not approve of any of the girls on the team being disrespectful to the coaches and neither would I.:D

Lots of great post on this subject, so it seems to me all you can really do without possibly making things worse is just sit back see how it pans out and enjoy," it is what it is" and relax!:D

How many have had coaches say.......I dont care if you have a Pitching Coach or Batting Coach.....you will do it my way or else? This is happening to one of our 13U players by a Jr. High Coach. Any ideas on how to help the young lady get through the season? Thanks for any replies.

I would have your DD explain that she has worked hard to get where she is and to please let her prove that she has what it takes to get the job done. If the coach still wants her to change, then she would love to switch to another position to help out the team.

My oldest made her hs team. Since day one of tryouts, she comes out angry because they tweaked something on her hitting or catching. She screams out, I was taught this way not that way. After listening to her, I asked her, did you show this in front of the coaches and her reply was no. I told her maybe they know something that we don't know and apply, and mix the 2 methods. That's my oldest.

Concerning my youngest, I'll be that snob travel parent. But I won't need to worry about that. They're following in the footsteps of bouldersdad and carrier since they know a thing or two.

Switching to another position hopefully will work for us and can be a reasonable solution to the situation.

We are dealing with a "my way or the highway coach". She doesn't understand the catching position beyond the basic of receiving the ball. She works off of intimidation, screaming, power kick approach to the girls. That's not coaching to me and obviously others feel that way as well since the players are cutting the coach (that's how I term when players refuse to play for a coach).

My DD has been working with a catching coach for 2 years on and off and she's really blossomed into a hell of a catcher. This coach wanted to change it but could not give one reason why or how it would benefit my daughter. It got ugly with the DD, coach wouldn't listen, etc., etc. First time as a parent I got in a coach's face and told her she will not change my kid's skills unless she could explain to us why and the benefit.

My DD is playing varsity for that coach in the infield at 3rd base. Which is fine with DD. We believe having the versatility to play multiple positions is good for the player and makes her more valuable to the team. It's a reasonable solution to the situation as it addresses the issues (including the coaches "issues").

Depending on this season, DD may cut the coach next season.

That's exactly what I told the young lady, play whatever other position she puts you in as best you can and learn as much as you can. And let her find out what she is missing from your not pitching for the team. The call by the coach was made because....the young ladies pitching coach is working with her on a drop curve ball. But at this time it hurts her arm to throw it very much. So she would not throw this for the school coach, and the coach told her you will not pitch then.....and picked 4 other girls for pitching instead.

And of those 4, how many throw the drop curve;&

None and the closest in speed is at 48 mph....and this girl already throws 5 maybe 6 other pitches. So I told her....your pitching coach knows what is best for you, both I and the Head coach already know what you can do. So play wherever she sticks you, it is her lose.

I maybe wrong. But as a high school coach, but I ask all my kids the following ever year:
1... Who have you been working with?
2... Show me your work-out drills
3... And I get their instructors phone numbers and contact them on what theyhave been working on.
over the past 10+ years, about 95% of the off-season instructors have been great to work with me on continuing the girl's progress.

It is my personal belief that a coach can work with off-season instructors to help improve the individual player and inturn help hi/her program. I know I have a solid knowledge of the game; but can always learn more.

How do you know what the other pitchers can do, are you at practice?

No.....this is information that the young lady and her father have given me. We have played against 3 of the 4 girls, and my DD played with 2 of the girls a couple of years ago.
