In my opinion the FACILTY holding the tourney should be mandated to putting up temp fences by NSA,ASA or Pony or which ever sactioning body has there name on the tourney. And if the facility does not want to do it or cannot do it then we will move our tourney's else where. A 300' fence in fastpitch is just nuts!
Congratulations to the MC Maddness for a successful and well ran tournament. Thank you!
One of 2 things will happen, and you won't be happy with either of them.
1. The facility will tell the tournament "Sorry, go elsewhere". The tournament will then have to find another venue, which can host in excess of 50 teams within a 3 day period, with regulation or temporary fences, that isn't already reserved. If the facility advertizes temp fences, then thats a whole different story.
or
2. The facility will get temporary fences and install them for the tournament and pass all of the costs (materials and labor) along to the tournament who will pass them along in the entry fees.
A lot of the tournaments are put on as fund raisers for various Softball organizations. The organizations try to get facilities that will not greatly impact the bottom line (Basic business principles). So, organizations get what they can get. Some fields have fences for softball, some have no fences at all. A facility (school, city, or private ball park) is not going to buy temp fences for just one event. The organization would have to buy the fences, and store the fences when not in use. It would be cost prohibitive for an organization to buy temporary fencing.
