[Softball] Threshers force split with Coyotes, McDowell claims 'K' record

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel softball team (16-17, 7-7) took on the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes (16-20, 6-8) this afternoon after the double-header had been originally postponed due to weather. Both teams were in a bit of a pitching duel in Game 1, with both starters breaking double-digits in the strikeout column. Madison McDowell (JR/Basehor, Kan.) and her 10 K's set a new program record for the Threshers, but unfortunately it wasn't enough to get the win. Bethel forced extra innings thanks to Kerrigan Simons (SO/Riley, Kan.) swiping home plate in the bottom of the 7th, but ran out of gas in the 8th inning and fell 8-5. The bats were broke loose in Game 2 for both squads, but Bethel held the upper-hand. Both McDowell and Leisle Hoffman (JR/Wichita, Kan.) went 3-4 at the plate, and helped Bethel win 7-5.
