We went to quite a few tryouts as I had stated above, here's a list of the teams and a breif synopsis of the tryout:
Dragons Black - Worked the girls really hard, very thorough. ?It rained horribly just before the tryout, so we ended up doing the whole thing in the outfield. ?Considering that it went very, VERY well. ?The only downfall was, they couldn't set the pitching machine up so the coach pitched. He wasn't the fastest, but he did "bring it" every once in a while! He really seemed to get a lot out of the girls. It was a great tryout.
HOH Extreme - Bruce worked the girls out big time. ?He not only used the pitching machine for batting he used it for outfield drills...I thought that was a great idea, and it worked very well. ?The 9 girls from the previous year were there, and they helped out. ?I didn't have any problem with that, but my daughter didn't like that. ?Overall it was a great trout. ?My daughter was pooped after that one.
11U Stingrays - This was the longest tryout! ?WOW! ?Once again they were very thorough, and drilled the girls on everything. ?They did some coaching, which I didn't have a problem with, but I'd prefer they see where the girls are as opposed to coaching them on the basics. ?I do understand that they do that a little to see how "coachable" the girls are. ?They had live pitching, and that was so long! ?Overall, it was the longest tryout, Brian was great, the girls got worked hard...and it was a good one too. ?Just a bit too long.
Buckeye Heat 96 - As I stated before, they lined the girls up as an infield/outfield instead of just drilling them all from one position. ?The girls got to pick the position(s), and it gave the coaches an opportunity to see skill level and field knowledge. ?I thought it was a great idea, and showed a lot. ?They had a machine and ran the girls thru it twice. ?First time thru, moderate speed, second time thru, FAST! ?WHEW! ?My daughter had such an awesome time at this tryout, she shocked me and begged me to let her commit right then and there....which we did. ?Amy and Heather really connected with my daughter and it has turned out to be awesome.
Overall, I think all the tryouts we went to were excellent. ?Regarding the coaches, I would've been proud to have my daughter play for any of them. ?They were all excellent coaches and more importantly excellent people. ?I was really pulling for my daughter to pick the Dragons Black, because I've gotten to know Mike and he's just a world class guy, but I let her make the decision, and it didn't work out. ?But if any of the above mentioned teams coaches read this, thanks so very much and I really appreciate everything. ?You all are full of class, and your organizations are too. ?Thanks again.
