We are just starting but the first 2 tryouts were extremely well run, with coaches who are very knowlegdeable! They are Valley Sting and the Silver Creek Starz. But we are just at the tip of the iceberg. Have several more tryouts this week and next.

We went to 3 this weekend & all were well run & had great turnout, but I'd have to give the top spot to the Lasers. Everything moved smoothly & the girls had plenty of opportunity to do their thing.

I saw a girl injure her knee at a tryout doing home to first timed runs. I believe she was told at a different tryout to stretch her leg to get her foot planted on the base quicker which was bad advise. Stretching the leg to full extension locks the knee and upon impact with the base it can't unlock with bad results. Fortunatly it was only hyperextended but it could have easily been much worse and it was terrible to see her on the ground in considerable pain.

The best by far and I don't feet I will ever see better was Miami VAlley Express. My dd said she learned more in the 2 days of tryouts than she has for the past 2 years. What an experience.

first one ok. Call back came 1 day later than we were told and that seems like a long time for a girl wanting to be on a team. Then just to find out the team was only looking for a few to fill a certain position. Would have been nice to know that ahead of time.

vinali, that is one of the worst things for the ladies to find out. I wish more of the organizations would tell you up front what positions they are looking to fill.

We went to only one and it ran smoothly and we were happy with everything except a pitching machine. The machine released the ball at about shoulder level of a pitcher. This trajectory it made it a bit different and difficult to react to. The DD hit well off of it luckily, but said it was weird. Now we sit and wait for a call.

we have attended four so far and now i realize that all tryouts are not the same. 2 were unorganized and slow and 2 were good.

Express was kind of overwhelming with all the girls but my daughter did learn somethings so it was a good experience.

Ohio Hawks was more informal but they took a real good look at all the girls and made sure that they answered all questions (and I had a ton) so it was the most comfortable tryout so far.

We are planning on attending 3 more so we will see how those go. we have yet to hear from any teams on if she made the teams or not and the suspence is killing us :)

vinali that is not so unusual. many teams are only looking for a player or two but they are also hoping to hit the lottery if the right player comes along. keep your head up you will get better at playing the game as well. my suggestion is to call and talk to someone and ask what the team may be looking for. at least then if they tell you that all positions are open and you find out differently after then you can judge their character as well.

bigredmachine you have attended 4 so far and are going to 3 more? wow, I hope your DD does not suffer from tryout fatigue.

went to one team tryout, she performed well. fielding, batting and running drills. new 18u coach sat entirely with a sullen face. no personality, oh oh, bad feeling.
the director talked at the end of tryouts to the parents, not the coach. He stated that they are going to wait to see how many girls are comming back before they make their decision. Well we aren't waiting ,we are off to two more this week.

May I not so humbly suggest to take special note of the teams and organizations who are willing to be forthright and list their needs? They do this at the risk of not having some good players show up since their positions are already filled, but feel it is more important (1) to be honest, and (2) to not have people wasting their time showing up for a tryout that is nothing more than an attempt to see whether some complete stud will show up who can unseat a girl already entrenched in a position.

JoeA, ?honesty is a good thing, My DD is no stud, but she plays hard. Well, let me rephrase that- she a stud in my eyes! ;D ?the organization that she tried out for, all organization should follow, their very respectable and have the children best interest. just my DD had a bad feeling after the tryout

Are all of these girls that are going to 4,5,6,7,8 tryouts new to travel ball? If not, whats wrong with the team they were on last year? Maybe someone should start a post of players who changed teams, and the reason so others could avoid a bad situation before they get in too deep.

I'm sure the people who are praising mv xpress are speaking of the 14u team. the coaches there are great! As for girls that need to go to other tryouts, coaches move up in age, only want to take certain players with them, which is fine. It would be nice if teams stayed together and progressed as a team but that is not always the case. It's seems like it takes a season too figure out a new team , and then to disband it at the end of the season just seems like you have to start all over again.

We have been completely honest here at Classics Central - when people ask. ?I have posted needs for our older teams and after this weekend we will have looked at over 65 girls for 8 spots on our 16 and 18 teams. ?

I wanted to do things in small groups so we didn't have the huge open tryout for the older teams even though we have one scheduled for this weekend. ?We called everyone in the 16s and 18s and invited them out over the last two weeks. ?I thought small groups was the best way to look at them. ?But maybe the overall impression one gets from seeing 30 or 40 girls trying out for a couple spots leaves a better impression on the candidate, and it may seem like more of an achievement for them when they get called back.

We have notified everyone with in a day if we offered, want a second look, or declined. ? We have given them plenty of time to respond (I heard people say the ***** needs an answer by tomorrow).

Overall I am pleased with the quality of players ( even the less experienced ones). ?I really believe Ohio Fast pitch is getting much stronger, and is poised to do very well at the national level over the next few years. ?

This is my dd's 2nd year in 12u. The team she was on last year broke her spirit big time. That won't happen again this year. We have gone to 3 tryouts and have 2 more. Her team from last year offered her a spot as well as all 3 others. We have turned down all but one. However, we are still going to the other 2 tryouts. You just never know.

Smart move softball 9295. You never know. I have many parents call and tell me they are trying out for so and so. Or even ask about an organization. One asked about the Buckeye Heat and since I run into Joe all the time, I told them how good I thought that organization was. I have sent some 16U 's to a team that I know has a good coach. I think you should shop around and find what best fits your needs and if your dd fits the needs of that team. Like Joe A stated be honest and let them know what you are looking for. You end up with 6 girls showing up to play first base, your organization is going to get a bad name.
