Just a couple of notes as the end of April is here and the tournament is just a few weeks away. If you have not sent in the balance for your registration fee please do so or call me for other arrangements.I will call with pool play assignments by Mother's Day. I am working to honor all request for game times so please feel free to check with me if you needed special start times.
If you need motels and do not have them get them now, there is a 3 on 3 basketball tournament in town this weekend.
Dani and I as well as the tournament commitee look forward to seeing everyone and some great games.

Thank You,
Conrad Wilkins

The list of teams is up to date as of 5/3/08. I am waiting to hear about 1 14u team, if they pull out (not enough players) we will go with 16. As for the 12u I am waiting to hear from 1 team, I would like to have 10 in this group if you are interested please give me a call. In the 10u I am working with a few teams and hope to add 2-3 more by the middle of next week.

Thank You,
Conrad

When we left, Heart of Ohio Extreme was playing Buckeye Heat 96 and Lady Blaze was playing MOV Flaming Fury. Blaze and Fury were both undefeated and in winner's bracket. Extreme and Buckeye heat in the loser's bracket.

I may flip flop how the seedings went, but I THINK it was like this: (I know the top 4 are correct)

1. Blaze
2. Fury
3. HOH Extreme
4. Lady Niners
5. Stars and Stripes (?)
6. Buckeye Heat
7. Phoenix Fastpitch
8. Strausburgh Tigers
9. Lady Bullets
10. Valley Force

I know Blaze and Fury each went 3 and 0 in pool play, Lady Niners and Extreme went 2 and 1, I believe Stars and Stripes and Buckeye Heat 96 were each 1-1-1 in pool play. I am not sure about the others.

A lot of coaches were complaining this weekend because there was no field ump, just the one behind the plate.

:) In the 14u group Buckeye Heat took first with Philo All Stars placing second. Third place went to LCSA Rockets and fourth to Holly Hills USA. In 12u play Central Ohio Lady Blaze finished first and MOV Flamin Fury second. In 10u play the Westerville Warcats won first place and the Strasburg Tigers took second. I will try to give more info later, but I would like to think a few people in particular our ground crews who worked very hard to get fields ready to play after the Saturday morning storms. Mid Ohio Thunder's coaches showed up early and stayed to work on the fields as well as some at the Perry fields but I am not sure what team they were from. Also Holly Hills USA, we strugled to get umpires and were only able to use 1 per game, instead of complaining they gave us contacts for future use and offered thier help. Also Daryl Satterfield who most likely has a $200 cell phone bill trying to get umpires.
Most of all the teams who played hard all weekend and provided hours of great softball I know there are more, but it is 11:00 pm and I am going to bed.

Conrad,
I just wanted to say "Thank You" on behalf of myself and everyone at Mid-Ohio Thunder Softball. It was our 1st USFA tournament and was definitely a learning experience for us. We played some great competition in the 14U and with the exception of a rain delay (which isn't uncommon in Ohio) we enjoyed the tournament and would like to participate again in the future. Its all about the girls getting to play ball, and that's exactly what they got to do! Keep us in mind for next year.

My only complaint (other than having only 1 umpire per diamond and the rules changing with different umpires on different days), is that there was no ice available for injury. Yes, most coaches should and do carry the instant ice, however, we were in a situation with an injury where we needed an ice pack and even though there were buckets of ice available to shave down for $4.00 snow cones, we couldn't get a ziploc baggie of ice for an injury.

Thank you to all the girls and coaches for some great ball. In the hind sight is 20/20 area I would recomend to anyone using a sanction new to the area to double sanction the event (ASA/USFA) to get more umpires. All umpires were ASA & or OHSAA umpires. The one asked to show his sanstion card is an ASA commisioner and has been invited to umpire the Olympic team's games in Ohio. I agree there should be two umpires in every game, due to several going to the Gus Macker and some other slowpitch tournament in the area they were in short supply. As stated earlier several teams offered help & gave contacts for future events. Our UIC (the only paid person for this event ) blew it off & went to the Macker. His check is not in the mail. He was to schedule umpires and run the Perry site. The only host team in the event was the West Muskingum All Stars in the 14u event. They would not put teams in the 10 & 12u tourneys, travel teams are to tough? 2 teams had West M girls but do not play within the West M summer league.
