I suggest dropping the gift bags for all ages. Never understood the need for bags at both states and nationals.

I have heard alot about no coolers at Tealtown. Does that include everyone? What I want to know is are the teams allowed to have a cooler of water for their players?

Yes, teams are allowed to bring coolers for water for the team. ?This is outlined on the website.

The gift bag idea is something we were told has become customary and should be included. We have had some comments from older team requesting it be removed. Now that it is posted, its too late to eliminate it since I'm certain some teams have already made plans.

Water coolers, coolers with wet rags, ice, medicine etc. are permitted in the park.

Several days ago I e-mailed the TD about dropping the gift idea for at least the 18U teams. ?I received what I thought was a response agreeing that this was unnecessary at 18U. ?As I stated then, 18U girls come to a state tournament to play ball, not to receive trinkets from another team. ?Inevitably these gift exchanges cause hard feelings as one team always feels like they gave more than they received. ?This practice causes headaches for players, parents and coaches. ?Could we have some support from the 18U teams for dropping this idea??? ? I doubt that I have a single parent or player who wishes to do this. ?I don't have time to pull this off in the next week and I'm not going to push it off onto anyone else. ?I don't mean to sound unfriendly or unsportsmanlike but this is 18U not 10U. ?Let's just play ball!

I made an error in my earlier posting concerning the dropping of the gift bag idea. It was an Assistant Tournament Director that I had e-mailed. Check the tealtownballpark.org website for the directors' e-mail addresses as I don't wish to post addresses here.

I completely agree that the gift bag idea should be dropped, especially for the 18U level.

Our team has not even discussed it and, like ValleySting, we probably will not have time to get it done. Between tournament games, practices, parents and players who work during the week, there is no way to get it done. It is more of a pain than it is worth.

I personally do not understand why you have to give gift bags at States. I understand at Nationals, especially for the younger age groups as a state-to-state welcoming gift, but at States is ridiculous. Most teams have already played each other before getting to States, but now all of a sudden you have to give them a gift ??? ???

Last year we prepared gift bags at 14U and the team we faced didn't bring any. At least we didn't have to make a second batch for Nationals!!!

ValleySting - you definitely have more support at the 18U level.

*****What happens if you don't bring anything?
When my DD played at 12U level, the other team did not bring anything and when they found out they were supposed to, they wrapped some trinket up in toilet paper.

*****Either do away with the gift bag exchange at States or explain the process fully to everyone.

*****Valley Sting and S Mom - I am considering telling our team that we are not going to participate. If most 16 and 18 u's feel this way, LET'S JUST NOT BRING ANYTHINg!!!! That way the younger ones can still have their fun and we don't have to be bothered with hit. Let's just play ball!!!!

I can garauntee you my 16u team does not want anything to do with gift exchanges. I didn`t have a clue they were even doing it at this tournament till I read it on here. Just one more thing to have to do.

When we found out that the other team did not bring gift bags, we just decided to save ours for Nationals.

Trinkets wrapped in TP is a pretty scary thought!!!

As a coach of a 12u team, I am a not fan of gift bags for the state tournament. We do one for the world series and that is enough.

I have to agree with everyone "Gift Exchange" is for Nationals. Not sure if I've ever heard of it at states before, is this something new this year?

Nothing new. Teams usually exchange these for both state tournaments and nationals. I do think that it could be eliminated for 16U and 18U teams though.

Afterall -- we're only trading gatorade and sunflower seeds. ;D

I agree with Tig, I can only recall the gift bag exchange at Tealtown. Last year at the "A" States in Poland we did not exchange gift bags.

About the gift bags. No one involved with the last state is at Tealtown today.

The packet that was prepared was modeled off the last one, reviewed by all involved, included in tournament rules and posted in late January-early February.

Personally, it doesn't matter to me at all.

After all this time is everyone just now reading the information? It would have been easier had these discussions and inquiries started a little sooner.

A coaches packet is going out by this weekend. We could include the statement that it is optional but can't guarantee some teams will come expecting to exchange.

Welcome packets were e-mailed to every registered coach.

Several were returned due to interpretation of the handwriting of some e-mail addresses.

If you have not received the info, send an e-mail to vwooten@cinci.rr.com and put the name of your team and age division in the subject line. That e-mail address will become your new team contact. Please, coaches only.

Thanks
