The Heat actually has a total of 19 girls from NWO. 12 of those are on the Heat Toledo 16-U team.

Makes sense, so would you say the Heat Toledo are not an out of town team since the whole team is in NWO?

Uber, I would say you are correct, but we play for an out of town organization. There is a reason for that.

Heat, you say "but we play for an out of town organization. There is a reason for that." I'm interested, what is your reason? Looking at things for quite awhile, it appears High school ball in NWO is very competitive on a state level, but Travel ball seems to be better done down in the mid and south part of the state. There are MANY travel teams up here, which isn't a bad thing, but it does dilute the talent on one team, and it seems up here, every parent who is disgruntled with their situation, starts a new team every year! [again, not saying that's bad, we are expanding our thunder program also]

Maumee, I am not sure about every year a Dad starts a new travel team. It actually happens less than what it use to.
It is an interesting thought that your program has diluted the other travel programs... what is up with that???

you take things way to personal Uncle Marty ;D I guess "spread out" is a more PC than "diluted" I don't have problems with mutiple travel teams in NWO, it just makes sense that those teams will not be top A bracket contenders in BIG tournaments [there are so many more tournament options these days, it sort of mimics the multiple travel teams] on another note, I was happy to see the joint statement of FAST and SGS in cooperation on promoting softball in NWO. And Thunder isn't really "diluting" the pool, it's more like "following a vision" :D

MaumeeSoftball, The reason that we play for an out of town organization is because of exposure. Unfortunately the local (NWO) teams don't have a strong following with college coaches. The local teams (Magic, Wizards, Irish, and Thunder) generally play in local (Toledo) tournaments. The Buckeye Heat organization is watched by a great deal of colleges and the Heat's organization purpose is to get the girls exposure so they can play at the next level. The goal for the Buckeye Heat - Toledo team this year is to play at the ASA Nationals in Owensboro, KY. This National tournament has colleges from all over the USA coming to watch. I don't think any other NWO team is shooting for the ASA Nationals. That is the difference. I think what you are trying to do with the Thunder is great and it will serve as a great feeder program for Maumee High School, but as for the others organizations they are great for 10U and 12U. Once girls hit the 14U age we are seeing more and more head south.

Heat,

I cant say I disagree with that, the local organizations are really a team by team deal. If you look at Thompson's Irish 14U team they have always and will continue to play a very aggressive schedule. And there have been other Irish teams in the past, but it is not an organzational philosphy that you play in the best tourneys, perhaps that is the difference in the organizations you mentioned? I know there have been Magic Teams that played in as many tough tourneys as possible, but if your on a team that only plays in a few high caliber tourneys a year and your looking to do more and get more exposure you will probably look elsewhere. It would be tough if your kid was on what you thought was a competitive team and you were in a couple tourneys that are basically rec ball tourneys trophy hunting. So I can totally see your point Heat.
