Names on Uniforms?

How important is it to have the players names on the back of their uniforms? ?I would think that it would be a priority on 16U-18U teams that go to tournaments where college coaches are at. ?Not so much with the younger ages though.

And I don't want to hear, "Play for the name on the front, not on the back."

When your trying to get college exposure, I would think it would be better/easier if your name was on your uniform.

What do you think?

JMO - I would think that if there is enough interest by a scout or coach he would approach the head coach to find out. I know there are alot of college teams that do not have the player names on them.

I like the names on the back only thing is the girl's then tie up the backs so they are not readable ;D or the like the racerbacks with no room for a name like Harville.

Or they want to put nicknames instead of Last Name only, then the purpose is defeated.

I like the name on the back, but it becomes costly when players don't return if you are planning on using the uniforms more than one year. For that reason, I would only suggest 16U & 18U.

It doesn't matter if it is a racer back or other type of uniform if the player has a pony tail. We placed the last name of our players on the racer backs but below the numbers. There was enough room for the names, and it was easier to read.

Another reason why I like names on uniforms is because I like to know the names of players on the opposing teams. If a player stands out, I want to know who she is. I read a lot about players who I have either never seen or didn't know that I saw play. This way if I see a name, it helps me put a name and a face with postings I read.

I agree that it's not really necessary for the younger players (but still nice if it's affordable---parents and grandparents love to see the names out on the field.)

And I do like to see last names on the back of older players' shirts---for scouts as well as just us curious folks in the stands. ?;)

Like the old saying in politics, it doesn't matter why your name is in the paper, as long as they spell it right. Advertising, advertising, advertising.

I also like the names on the backs for the same reason many have said.....being from NE Ohio, there are many names of players on here that I read about and have no idea who they are. It is nice to go to a tournament and actually be able to put the name with a face. Most of these girls know that they play for the name on the front of the shirt, but they also like people to know who they are when they play.

I have seen both ways...if the names are not on and you are short a tournament you can pick up a player and she fits right in, unless your team can afford to just carry and extra uniform w/o a name on it.

We always had extra uniforms without names for pick up players. The remaining players had names on their uniforms.

i like the names on the back but don't think for a second that if a scout is interested
that he doesn't already know who you are and your #.
most scouts have a your profile sheet and you have been coresponding with them.
if for some reason they just see you.. and like you.. they will ask

I can take em' or leave em', last names on the uniforms, that is. ?One thing I'm not a fan of is "nick-names" on the jerseys, which you really only see in rec ball or on the younger teams. ?Something I think is extremely helpful is having the number on the front of the jersey or shorts. ?I can't count how many times I've waited for a player to turn her back to me so I could figure out what number she was! ?Need the number on the front too!

Ah, nicknames. Remember "He Hate Me" in the XFL. There has to be some good XFL nicknames for pitchers or catchers. Can you imagin the intimidation of looking at a monster on the mound with the nickname of "Paingiver" on her jersey. First pitch is always high & tight.

COOL!!!---don't care for the nicknames either, but if they let her, bet my dd would try to wear one of those spiked dog collars in the circle (with her face mask, of course~safety first ?;)) and her jersey would say sump'in like "Bruiser"---we believe in truth in advertising. ? ;D

I do not care for names on the back of players uniforms. Just one more way of identifying an individual in a team game.

I love nick-names. I understand the reasoning for names as they get older. However, my two daughters have MANY shirts and hoodies with their last names. The one's they love and wear all the time, have their respective nicknames.
