Who won the 14u at the Spano dome this weekend? The Valley Extreme beat the Evolution in the 12u. Ended up tied at 2 but Valley had more 1 more runner to 2nd so they won.

I believe Ohio Ice won. It was tied at the end of the game. Great Game.
Every play made a difference. Slammers held their own the entire game.
Looking forward to playing these teams outside!

Yes, Ohio Ice won. The game was tied 1-1 at the end of time and Ice had one more runner reach 3rd base than the Slammers. It was a good game to watch and it was a shame that in a championship game they didn't allow the girls to play out for the championship. It would have been a good test for both teams to go the distance.

Just curious, was this one of the NSA alternate state qualifiers?

It was good to play in the dirt in Feb. We stayed to watch the 12u finals with the Evolution vs. Valley extreme. Both teams can really hit. One girl from the valley extreme would have had a home run had we been outside . I didn't like how the tie breaker was resolved though. However, I guess when everything is on a time limit you have to do something.

So this was an NSA alternate state site and they allowed games (even the championship game) to be decided by that method? Kinda sad to see that. Just imagine if this summer when the actual NSA state is held at Tealtown that the games were decided this way. Nobody would stand for it.

I think that if NSA wants to allow these indoor tournaments to be qualifiers for outdoor national championships, well that is one thing. But to allow teams that play in this touranament to not have to participtate in the actual outdoor state tournament I think is very weak. If this is the case then why not allow every tournament that hosts an NSA event to be a state alternate? At leats thyey are actually held under the same conditions.

It would be nice to see an official from NSA Ohio actually answer this question. There is no way I am the only one who has this question. How does everyone else feel about this?

BTW, congrats to all of the teams that won. This is in no way taking anything away from them. Or indoor ball for that matter. I think indoor ball is awesome and Spano does a great job. This is more about NSA and what they are trying to tell us.

Congrats to the ICE. However, to have a such a great game (1-1) end via statistics is an absolute travesty, especially being a championship game. I also can't believe NSA would allow this to happen. The time-limit-stay-on-schedule argument doesn't hold water. The time limit isn't the issue, it's poor schedule managment. :'(

chooseone - could not agree wiith you more. ?While a well run event, and a great opportunity for teams in NEO (and surrounding areas) to get some time on the dirt and some "close to real game" experience in Feb., this event being a NSA NQ and alternate state is ridiculous.

Kudos to Spanos and all of the teams that participated. ?Saw some great games this past w/e. ?The NSA on the other hand, needs to get a clue. ? ?:-[

Out of curiousity I would like to know
"How many games were decided on time and reverting back" between the two weekends of tournaments.

We all know what indoor is about, but it appeared that the majority of games were won by the reverting back. ?Also noticed from past experience (this is our fifth year in a row attending), I think this is also contributing to some unacceptable behavior of coaches and players, "bush league" as you guys say.

I think they should consider going back to the FOUR weekends seperating the age groups again OR cut the number of teams playing to provide a minimum of 1:20 per game. ?Still have a "no new inning after 1:10".
Trying to get that many teams ready to play and play on one weekend is very difficult. ?With the closure of so many indoor facilities (GFOD,Thunderplex, and now 3Hs) this year, they certainly would have NO problem filling the weekends.

On the other hand it is great to see the progress the teams have made between fall and winter. ?Shame we lose them now for HS, saw some great progress in our girls.

Nice seeing all my coaching friends and parents this weekend, looking forward to see everyone at the fields this coming season!

I agree its a shame you cant allow an extra 15 minutes or so for a tie breaker in championship games. I think the rest of the teams would understand and you could build a half hour into the schedule to accomadate it easily.

It is sad that (at least for 14U), there seemed to be no reason to end the championship on a time limit. ?I did not see anyone waiting to use the field. ?In fact, field 2 was just being used for (literally) "field" box seating. ?I think I can safely say that all of the Ice and Slammer players, coaches, and families along with those there just to watch, would have gladly stayed to see it finished on the field.

Perhaps we should have passed a hat and taken up a collection to keep the lights on for a little longer? ? :-/

You are right ramsftbl, It is a wonder we don't see more coaches AND parents coming unglued when they find out they lost the championship game because Suzie made it to 3rd base back in the 2nd inning and Lisa only got to 2nd base. Bizaar way to play softball. Could you imagine if the AAU decided to eliminate overtime periods in basketball and decied the winner based on who had the least turnovers or who made the most free throws.

Wow! ?Sounds like the 14u championship game was a great one. ?I talked to a friend of mine who watched a lot of games at the tourney and he said there were a lot of games that ended with the score tied so the games were decided by the books. ?Thats too bad, but at least the girls got to play some ball. ?I also heard the Slammers and Ice were the class of the tournament all weekend and that the Ice only gave up that one run in the whole tournament and the Slammers only gave up a couple more. ?Must have been some very good pitching and fielding for both teams. ?I can't wait for June to see sum good 14u softball! ?

Chaos,

I couldn't agree with you more. I don't think either team wanted to end it like that. These girls are competitors and wanted to play. I do not have an issue with time allottments for pool and bracket play, but when the teams have worked their way through three days of play, I think they deserve to play until a winner is decided on the field, not in the books.

Quote from the indoor thread..

semis went Valley Extreme/ Lasers silver ?something like 9-1 and ?Evolution/ Ohio Ice ?5-2 finals Valley Extreme/Evolution 2-2 ?tie breaker to Valley. That was a great game. They had the same # of players to third Valley had one more to second and Evolution had one more to first.

Just reading this makes you scratch your head.

Also wanted to add, there was a NSA rep. at the championship 14u game. He did not seem to have a problem with the game ending tied and reverting to the scorebook to decide the winner.
