The people at the NSA national office should take lessons on how to run a tournament - attend the Stingrays Invitational.
Throughout the rain from Saturday to early Sunday, the entire Stingray organization did a fantastic job to ensure the tournament did not miss a beat! It ended up the most perfect day
for softball on Sunday weather wise, and I would have to believe that the cosmic power of the Stingrays had something to do with that ;)!

Again, outstanding job by the tournament - this event has to be the top dog in the midwest in terms of ASA/Junior Olympic softball competition - the players and families should appreciate this type of venue.

On another note, great job by all the 16u teams. Congratulations to the Valley Extreme for an excellent tournament and championship finals.

Couldn't agree more

The 16U was exicitng - the final of the winners bracket was Nightmare and Valley Extreme Blue with Nightmare winning 1-0 in an international tie breaker.

Valley Extreme then battled back to win the losers bracket and face Nightmare in the Championship.

The first game went to Valley Extreme 5-1. The next game went to the Nightmare 6-4. A well deserved congrats to the Nightmare

Both teams had excellent pitching, defense and offesne. The 16U didn't finish (due to rain delays until after 11:30pm - the girls on both teams displayed good sportsmanship and friendliness depite the tough day of compeittion and long (due to weather delays) day.

The Stingrays did an excellent job trying to accomodate the weather delays, etc. Overall fantastic tourament.

What great girls and competition this weekend! When the only losses that the top three teams had in the 16U were to each other that tells you how great these teams really are. The only losses Laser Aqua had was to Valley Extreme with both games ending in a 1-0 score. Great playing on both teams and then Extreme's only losses came from Nightmare with two close scores and Nightmares only loss coming from Valley Extreme in a close game. I have to say that the Stingrays had many chances to eliminate the losers bracket but kept fighting back till the end and we have not seen that in the last 3-4 weekends. A late night for everyone but it was decided on the field! Thank You!

I totally agree. GREAT tournament!! I hate losing...1-0 twice, but the Extreme team was a class act of great sportsmanship....my dd bunts a foul ball but runs to first. the pitcher picks her bat up and hands it to her.
just good old hard playing softball with the highest regards to sportsmanship around.
Some opportunities to put the smack on a first baseman fielding a pop up, but the runner makes sure she goes wide to the inside to avoid the contact. Both sides picking up the bat for the batter after foul balls. Laughter between the girls and the coaches. Both sides knowing they can win at any moment but not acting like idiots. Cheering kept to uplifting cheers towards their own teammates....both sets of parents complimenting a good play by either side.
**sigh**
Just perfect competition.

It was a great tournament! My end of season choices at 14u from 2007 were able to play in epic fashion at the FAN_TASTIC Stingray tournament ;)
The Nightmare and Valley Extreme did not dissapoint, as they continue their greatness in 2008!

The most exciting aspect of the game is that both teams are a "young" 16u, and return all for next year. The Nightmare even boast I believe many still 14u players that will definately charge central ohio(and Ohio) softball for years to come. VE has two key players that could still play 14u - imagine if these two combined the 14u and how they would do in that age group (watch out slammers ;D)

Great pitching, hitting, and defense spelled excitment, and from what I have seen, the Nightmare only get better. I could not stay for the finals, but this edition of the Nightmare is better than advertised. The college coaches were "drooling" during this game, and beside the "notables" that all in Ohio know about, there were surprise younger players on both squads that I had on my radar that are now
known commodities to the college recruiters marveling at their skills. Nightmare and Valley Extreme, you did Ohio very proud and took age-group fastpitch softball to another level!

This was the match-up you were looking for last season. We have had 5 chances to play each other this season. Great competition and great group of coaches, parents and players. I think everybody read the "STUFF" on here and it created an atmosphere of revenge and anger. But after this season we have seen alot of each other and respect is earned by both teams toward eachother. We even have 4 Valley Extreme players along with at least 5 Nightmare players at a college camp together. Found out that two of our Valley Extreme players are on a team with Paige Myers the pitcher from nightmare.. My response is I'd be glad you have her with you so you dont have to face her AGAIN!!!!!!! (

Great tourney at Stingrays!!!!! We faced a championship caliber team in every game. You mentioned the Nightmares having 14 year old players. We have 3 true 14U players including our two pitchers. You are correct about college coaches "drooling" over both teams talent. I watched two coaches turn to each other and say almost together " I can't believe they are only in 8th grade". The other part of this is they are both students at Poland Seminary Division 2. I can almost assure you that Reid Lamport will not be considering retirement for probably at least 4 more years.

Been great reading your input on here. Keep it up.

16U Valley Extreme Blue

Mr. White,

I had the privileged of watching your team a few times this weekend. All I can say it WOW! I do mild recruiting help for a friend who is a college coach. I would like to remain anonymous, unlike yourself :), but I can tell you he was "shocked" to say the least when reading over your teams book. It shocks me that your whole team will be eligible to play 16U next year, and 3 of them including your 2 stud pitchers can play 14U this year. I heard you were like 60-4 last year with the same squad which is a testament to you coaches and your girls. In my professional opinion, you have a handful of girls who can play at the Division 1 level, as long as they continue to mature, work hard, and keep focused on the right things in life. I've seen too many girls over my years have so much potential at the 16U level, then big heads eliminate a good work ethic and they don't amount to their "potential."

Not to take anything away from Nightmare, cause that team is fantastic as well. Great group of girls from GCKA, and congrats to your program on another 2008 championship! I heard from a parent talking that Valley Extreme Blue is 3-2 this year against Nightmare, which shows the likeness of these squads. Hopefully these two fine programs can meet up again, maybe even in the championship game! Congrats to Nightmare on your Championship, and VX Blue on your 2nd place finish!

I agree that the Valley Extreme Blue ( very classy team)and the Nightmare are very good teams and I got my moneys worth at the Stingray tournament. To clarify the two teams are 2-2 and not 3-2 and this is the Nightmares first lost of the season after they got their team together after the high school playoffs ( they didn't have 5 of there current players, including Paige Myers until the middle of May plus 2 others who were in playoffs, but got play early May).
I think both are very classy and great teams and if they play 10 games I would guess it would be a split unless one makes more mistakes than the other.

GOOD JOB TO BOTH AND TO THE COACHES AND FANS!

Not that it matters, or that it is worth arguing over, but I don't like being told I'm wrong when I am indeed right. :) I did a little research on their schedule since I was looking up teams websites from Ohio today and I was right. Valley Extreme was 2-0 against them in their NSA qualifier in June, and 1-2 this past weekend, making it 3-2 VX when playing each other! Regardless, both teams are superb!

I'm Sorry Columbus_softball. You are correct. I forgot to count the pool play game from the Valley Extreme tournament. I did go to the Vally Extreme site and got my memory back. Again, very sorry.
