Hello all,
Just thought I would share with you that I had a visit with Howard out here in Oklahoma City this past weekend. We watched team USA beat team Canada in an entertaining game which Crystal Bustos put away with a 3 run shot into the upper bleachers at the stadium.
Howard is a first class hitting instructor and someone you would want teaching your child. We talked hitting and much more and could have gone much longer had I not had to get back to Dallas that same day so I could give lessons the following day.
Howard introduced me to his friend Micheal Bastian who currently coaches team China and has a large resume of softball experience to his credit. That too was an interesting conversation in that Michael shared with me how his not being able to speak the language has improved his communication skills because he has had to develop other ways to communicate to his players to get them to understand what he wants. He stated it has made him a much better coach.
Howard and I stood beside the ASA hall of fame under the trees out there exchanging ideas, concepts, and information about hitting for at least a couple of hours prior to the game. If anyone was watching us they would have been scratching their heads and asking what are those two old farts up to under the trees. ;D
I also got to watch Howard interact with some young ladies who were sitting behind us during the game. They talked to Howard briefly while we were sitting there discussing hitting and I asked them if they knew they were talking to Crystal Bustos hitting instructor. You should have seen their eyes light up. Throughout the course of the game Howard was talking with them and interacting and giving them insight and information on what he teaches hitters. They soaked it up like sponges. All the time I am sitting there grinning on the inside and out. I had to apologize to Howard for getting him into that situation. I think he enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed watching him talking with those kids.
It is always great to meet someone and put a face to a name. In this case for me it was much more. As we talked I realized Howard is very sincere about what and how he teaches kids to hit. We have a lot in common not only as instructors but as people who care about teaching kids not only how to hit but what life is about. Because that is what is really important when you get to the bottom line.
I enjoyed this past weekend with Howard and I will stay in contact with him often. He has a lot to offer in many ways and you are all lucky to have that kind of person willing to share his life with you. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone at anytime.
Elliott.
