Howard is a close friend of mine. Have trained with him for 16+ years. He has put hundreds of girls into college with teaching them throwing, fielding, hitting in that order.
Sad to say he is in hospice now after battling for months with UT problems.
One of the smartest men I have ever met. Will miss you and have a safe trip to heaven

I have been and always be a devout Howard disciple , my DD started at 14 with him and stayed close thru her college days. We met alot of the USA Olympians right in his garage/hitting area, where they would converse and hit with my Natalie for the hours shed be there. Theres no telling how many lives he touched and altered thru his instructing.
I had a pitcher play for me named Alicia Miller, Kentucky's player of the year her senior year at Bishop Brossart h.s . She really wanted to attend Bellermine but the coach seemed disinterested. I asked Howard and he said he'd call the coach and speak to her only if Alicia would come and go thru his hitting instruction. Long story short, Alicia called me and told me she was signed to go to Bellermine where she ended up with probably every pitching record they have.
Howard and his son would come to Duncans and my tryouts and help out with anything asked of them, mostly evaluating hitters. but i know he was there because he loved the game. He never wanted compensation for his instruction, he just asked for a case or so of gatorade/water for his students.
I was treated to a jack n coke once made by him that looked like it was in one of those glass tea jugs, needless to say Natalie drove home that night.
I deeply respect the man , a dear friend who i can honestly say i loved. The world is truely a lesser place with him gone.......

Well said and obviously from the heart. My condolences to all the family and friends of Howard. Truly a sad time in our sport.

Only met Howard once when I was 1st starting out in coaching over 20 years ago. After a 2 hour talk about teaching the female body how to throw and hit changed the way I was teaching. RIP

Howard was a complete teacher that impacted the lives of 100's if not thousands of young athletes by sharing his knowledge with others to carry on doing what he loved to do... teaching...

The big guy will be remembered with the countless pictures and lives touched with his generosity.

William Arthur Ward Quote:
The mediocre teacher tells, The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates The great teacher inspires...

Howard had all the traits of a great teacher...

My daughter was taught the Carrier way and I've taught my middle school team the same. I told the ladies, timely hitting ALWAYS beats awesome pitching. It takes 1 run to win the game. All is needed is a walk, sacrifice bunt, and a drive to RF with the right player on 2nd. You can score on a no-hitter.
