Catalyst Bats

I've heard whispers that the 2007 and 2008 Catalyst models are really the same bat with different paint jobs. Have a 2007 and it really has some pop. Thinking about a 2008 for next year but the price diff is almost double. Any truth to this rumor?

What's everyones opinion on the difference in the blue 07 and the yellow 06(the one approved for play in asa)?

DD has the dark blue 33-25 Catalyst that the Texas A&M team used this year. Has lots of pop in it, but DD likes to use the light blue 33-23 Catalyst when feeling tired or facing a pitcher with great velocity.

Bought the Orange one this year and the bat cracked in about 50 hits. They need to make it more durable.

i have the yellow catalyst...so does my sister...i deff. love it!...i've had it for about a year...still has great pop...it is a harder bat to swing b/c its end loaded... and smaller girls prob. shouldn't use it...but for power hitters like me it is deff. a great bat....too bad it's discontinued so its really hard to get. :'(

we had a lt. blue one 3 mos. and it shattered. A friend of mine had one 3 weeks and it cracked. We sent them both back and they sent us a brand new orange one. Im not sure it has the pop the blue one did, and neither has the pop the yellow one had.

The yellow Catalyst bats were the best they ever made IMO. DD used the -8 drop until they got banned by ASA. Sent it back to Catalyst and got the dark blue model. Not near as hot but still a good bat.

The yellow cat. ist the best Ive evre seen. But yes most bats are the same material with a new paint job.

Years ago the used to have a new name every year for the same alloy...C405....my gut at NASA said there was no such material.

I have heard the yellow cats are the best. What is the deal with the -8 drops being outlawed ? You figure the -10 would go first . We bought a baby blue and it was hot out of the package and getting better every day. Looked for a yellow -10 for awhile and never could find a new one. Have been very pleased with the baby blue though. When will the $$$$madness end$$$$

The ASA test new bats then retest bats after use to see if they will meet the ASA standards after being broken in by use. The Yellow -8 got WAY too hot after use so they got banned. The -10 stayed within the limits so it was still legal.

DD hit 4 home runs with the -8 in the span of about 4 weeks then it got outlawed. We returned it and LS sent us the revised model which was dark blue. Good bat but it wasnt anywhere near the yellow one.

I've seen a couple post over the months that say Bustos can only swing 78 mph or so. So how is it that a 12u player cannot use a Cat. -8 drop. The mph limit is 98 mph right?

Don't confuse bat speed with exit velocity. Bustos' bat head speed is the measuring how fast the end of the bat is moving. The 98 mph rating is, essentially, the batted-ball speed.

Here is a link to an explanation of the standard, but it is probably more than you want to know:

i believe that is the rate the ball comes off of the bat in a controlled environment. all bats are tested using the
same conditions and then the speed of the ball is measured coming off of the controlled hit. usually by some sort of
robot. usga uses the same concept to determine legality of new golf clubs and balls.

Catalyst Bats are not durable at/near the handle ... they crack.

Had a "yellow" for 9 months, snapped in half - head ended up at shortstop (unbelievable - never saw that before).

Louisville Slugger replaced it with an "orange" (stood behind their 1 yr. warranty).

Orange cracked all the way around the shaft about one inch up from the tape within 3 months.

Louisville Slugger said "Too bad, you lose. We replaced the first one and we are done" >:(.

Hot Bat, Poor Construction, Very Poor Durablity, Pathetic Company (policy) manufacturing it.

Gone from Louisville Slugger for life ... switched to Easton Synergy ... just as HOT and much more durable ;).

Don't waste your money :(.
