Louisville Slugger?s Catalyst Bat Added to ASA?s Non Approved List

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, Wednesday, December 7 2005 ? The Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA), the National Governing Body of Softball in the United States, today announced that the fastpitch softball bat Catalyst manufactured by the Hillerich & Bradsby Co., Inc. (DBA Louisville Slugger) is no longer authorized for use in ASA Championship Play.

Other governing bodies that currently use ASA?s bat performance standards such as the NCAA, NFHS, NAIA, NJCAA will continue to use the ASA?s non approved bat list and restrict such bats in 2006 and beyond.
?We are disappointed with the situation but understand that our contract with the ASA requires a bat to be placed on the ASA Non Approved list no matter how little it is found out of compliance?, said Marty Archer, President of the Louisville Slugger Baseball/Softball division. ?We acknowledge full responsibility for this situation.
Does anyone have any more info on this ? The Nsa Website has a link showing the same ruling. A few of my girls bought the Catalyst. Is this bat really Banned for this Summer ?

I have read the article, The banned bat is the Louisville Slugger PFC305 Catalyst -8 and not The C205 Catalyst-10.

Anyone else?

As other posters note, it is only the -8 model Catalyst that has been banned. The -10 is still legal for ASA play. Check out the banned and approved bat list on the ASA website.

Louisville Slugger has offered an exchange program for anyone that purchased the banned model. You'll need the original receipt to get a replacement bat.

Here's the info from the LS website on how to get a free replacement model.

That is correct, only the -8 has been banned. Checked with LS directly and they have already been given the green lite for the -10 for the 06 season.

We've already received our Catalyst2 -8 replacement bat. It is a navy blue with light blue/white letters.

Louisville Slugger will arrange to have your old FPC305 Catalyst (this is the yellow/gray -8 model) picked up at your home and will then return a new approved for use bat to you. Details are on the slugger.com web site under the "warranty" link.
