ASA Tournament Re: Which teams have qualified for ASA Nationals?

The following questions are regarding 18U.

Since the State Association gets two berths, why weren't there two awarded at the state tournament? Did the host team decide to take one? Also, who got the Dayton metro berth and when was that tourney held? Or if not, what happens to that berth?

Assuming the two regional berths will be awarded this weekend, there are possibly still two unclaimed. Are "they" waiting to see who "they" want to give them to until after this weekend?

If we are not getting answers from our state commissioner (see previous posts) it is time to go over his head and start talking to ASA's national HQ. Maybe time to use a lawyer. Ohio travel softball community vs. Ohio ASA.

thanks BlueDevilDad- reread my post - 4+3 does equal 7 :p my math was off!?!?!

The Valley sting rec'd their bid at the Cleveland Metro I think - that was the same weekend of the Classics Nat'l Qualifier- it was a surprise to many of the teams at the Classics event (and to Dave himself) that there was another ASA qualifier the same weekend

Where did Doom get theirs?

There have been posts both ways if Asland has 1 or 2 this weekend for 16U - most recent posts say 1

it's been a strange year hasn't it as far as getting info from ASA is concerned

Is Valley Sting a member of the Cleveland Metro Association?? If not, how can they qualify for their berth?? To join a Metro, 1/2 your players have to be from that area or surrounding counties. I thought the Valley Sting was from the Youngstown area. Alot of shady things are going on...

They opened the Cleveland Metro Tournament to all Region 9 teams. That is why we entered the tournament - I emailed the TD and asked about it as soon as it was announced (which was before Pickerington was announced). I agree it was silly to have 2 ASA qualifiers on the same weekend. That is how Valley Sting got their berth.

Based on previous posts, Ashland Blaze won their berth by winning the ASA Eastern Nationals last year. The Cincy Doom qualified by winning a Region 10 qualifier (the Diamonds of the South I believe).

How was notification given that the Cleveland tourney would be a Region 9 qualifier??? ?When i asked it wasn't. ?How are teams suppose to know when it's not even listed on the Ohio ASA site or the National ASA tourney site???

I'll be renovating my soapbox to a stage big enough to hold us all. Glad I'm not alone in having problems getting information on qualifiers, but wish we could get the problems solved for next year. :(

Shayne,

I share your frustration. ?All I can say is when I emailed the tournament director, I asked what teams could win the berth - i.e. just Cleveland Metro teams or all Region 9 teams. ?He replied with Region 9, so I entered my team into the tournament. ?I spent hours and hours in the fall and winter looking for ASA national qualifiers. ?They seem to be hard to come by.

I heard at Stingrays today that Grand Slam was going to the "Big Show". ?Where and when did they get their bid? ?
ASA births seem to be veiled in secrecy....... ?:-?

Region 10 is Cincinnati, Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois.

Youngstown/Mahoning Valley is Region 9
