Looking to purchase a Nokona glove for DD. Her main position is pitcher but will play 1st base, shortstop and some outfield. What is a good size that would work best in all situations? If anyone has a model number that would be great as there are so many types. What's up with buckaroo?

Not sure where you are getting but I would recommend The Glove Doctor (Mike Wilkinson)
Cell 330-856-4899 or email glovdocm@aol.com. I think he will be Spano leg. this fall winter, with gloves to try on. Also if you buy from him he breaks it in and will repaire it if any problems. Just a great guy.

DD is a pitcher in her Jr. year of college, and has two Nokona gloves. Going into her freshman year, she thought her first one was "worn out", and we got her another one in preparation for college. At the time, we didn't know of Bretman and his magic. Well, an assistant coach on her college team basically rebuilt her "old" glove, padding and all, and it was better than new!

I believe the Buckaroo is the Kangaroo Back glove, which is what DD has. The Kangaroo hide makes the glove incredibly light. Her Nokonas felt soft and broken in from day one. She's terrible about glove conditioning , although she is very good at keeping a ball in the glove's pocket in her bag. The team is buying them new gloves this year, so who knows what she'll wind up with.

A well made glove should last a lifetime if cared for properly. I agree with the advice about consulting Bretman. He has seen and worked on many, many gloves. If you want to know what the best made gloves are, ask the guy who's had them all torn apart and knows how they're built.

DD pitches and plays first with some outfield.

DD just got a AMG600 Buffalo 12.5". Breaks in very quickly and easily. Also, I would recommend you stay away from the kangaroo. Although it is very light and breaks in even easier, it tends to have a much shorter life span than buffalo.

You may have to call Nokona directly to get a recommendation for whom to call to order it in buffalo. I know that Nokona still makes the AMG600 buffalo, you just have to special order it. It took about four weeks for DD to get hers. This does not mean that you will pay a premium for it...Nokona does not charge extra for special ordering the 600 in buffalo. It just takes a little longer. We ordered ours from Rego Sporting Goods in Canton and were very happy with the service.

Our DD pitched and played first and she had a 12.5 Buckaroo as well. I apologize to those who have already heard the story, but when she was in 8th grade we wanted to give her the glove for Christmas, but we also wanted her to have majority say in what to get. So we printed out a picture of a Nokona and put it in a card. I will NEVER forget her scream when she opened that card. Good memories, and the glove lasted her through first year of college, at which point (reader alert, broken record ahead) she asserted her independence and decided that academics and some other pursuits left no room on her plate for softball . . . whoa boy, it still hurts to think about that, even though I know in my heart of hearts that she made the right decision.
