SDS - just wondering how 14U plays so early in Spring. Aren't most 14U girls playing middle or HS ball in April?

this is not meant to be a slight - just wondering if it has had an effect on turnout?
This is our second season for the "Spring into Fastpitch". Last season we had a full 14U division. This season there are already 6 teams committed. I assume there are many middle schools who don't offer girls fastpitch.

A lot of southern schools (South of Dayton) do not offer middle school softball, thus the availablilty....

Hey SDS, we're having a general discussion in our organization about who is eligible to play ASA "B". Can you give us any info on restrictions to entry? Thanks!

As long as your not registered "A" or have not played in an "A" qualifier you can play in any "B" tournament.
(According to the by-laws and our ASA commissioner)

Are you saying you are not even allowed to play in the tournament or you just can't take the bid if you are registered as an "A" or played in an "A" tournament.

By "registered", do you mean you listed the team as "A" when you got your ASA sanction? And do you have a reference to a specific by-law? Thanks!!!

I think the bylaw is 507. It needs some clarification. Surprise, surprise. It would appear that you cannot be considered a "B" team unless all your players come from the same league. What does that mean? What if your players don't play in a league? It appears if you play in an "A" tournament, then you would be ineligible to play in a "B" tournament. It doesn't clarify whether you could play in "B" first, then play in an "A". There are also some tournaments listed out there that state they are "A" and "B" qualifiers, so are they totally separating the teams? Or, if not enough teams of one classification show up and they combine the tournament, are the "B" teams now ineligible?

The way it was explined to me....... I'm pretty sure that you can play in any tournament you want to if your registered "B". Just if you win an "A" quailifer then your registration can be upgraded to "A". Once you've been upgraded to "A" , you cannot go back to "B". You can always go up, but never back down.

I think the Ohio Wave is running an "A" and a "B" Qualifier. The way Rich explained it to me was that the two will be seperated if there is enough to do so. If not, they all will be together and the best "A" registered team will take that bid and the best "B" registered team will that that bid. If I'm wrong, maybe Rich will correct me.

If you look at the USSSA and the ASA website from 2008 teams registered, most teams are registered "B". There are only a had full of "A" registered teams on there.

When our team asked the ASA commisioner about this we were told pretty much what was stated in the information listed above. Since our team had already sanctioned with ASA as a regular "A" team we could not compete in any "B" tournaments. The tournament that we participated in earlier had both "A" and "B" classifications and we were told that we had to prove that we were a "B" team before we could be eligable to play for that birth. This makes things a little bit dicey for teams who will be playing any other ASA tournament later this summer if they are not a "B" tournament. From what i have heard the ASA "B" national tournament is not very competitive and I guess that if this is a real criteria then I can understand why. Most travel teams technically should not be classified as ASA "B" teams. The ASA "A" & "B" classification is not the same as say the USSSA "A" & "B" designations and I think that ASA intended it to be that way.

Edamame,

Has your experience been that the USSSA "B" is better quality than ASA "B"? Our goal is an "A" national this year, but we are a young 12U team. 10 of our 12 are true 11U's. So, although we have higher aspirations, we are realistic in our expectations.

Make this tournament a priority for your spring schedule. SDS will have an announcement in the next couple days that will make this an extremely attractive weekend. We will have an event that will be family friendly to run in conjunction with the tournament.:yahoo:

We have obtained playing priveleges at another park. Bring on the teams. We can take them all

You won't want to be left out! SDS does it again!:yahoo:
