can't forget to stop and look at the Dukes of Hazzard memorabilia!!! Also a good place to get the gag lottery tickets for your favorite gullible person. Redneck Heaven!! Living 40 minutes from there for 5 years we've been all over that money trap... and some reason we keep going back!

Doug,
How is the competition in May? We have 3 SDS teams going down for the May 30/31st tournament.

SDS,

We have always played mid April and the teams have been top notch at that time. We got doubled dipped by the TN White Lightning last year in finals, I think they finished somewhere around the top 20 @ ASA/Nationals last year. Just playing a team like that four times in two days was worth the trip alone.

If you can find out who some of the teams that are registered I can give an idea of the level of competition.

'Dukes of Hazzard' reunion, plus Merle Haggard, coming to Sevierville this summer

SEVIERVILLE ? Fans of early-1980s television may want to start dusting off their CB radios and washing their cutoff jean shorts ? the "Dukes" are coming.

The first ever Smoky Mountain Fan Fest, slated for July 18-19 at Smokies Stadium, will feature the stars of the television series "The Dukes of Hazzard," as well as a special concert by country music legend Merle Haggard. Tickets go on sale today at 10 a.m. and can be purchased at www.concertsinthesmokies.com or by calling 286-2320.

Among the cast members set to appear: Catherine Bach, who played Daisy Duke and was one of the show's main draws for countless adolescent males; and Ben Jones, who parlayed his small-screen success as Cooter into time representing Georgia in Congress. Additionally, James Best (who played Sheriff Rosco P. Coletrane), Sonny Shroyer (Enos), Rick Hurst (Cletus), Byron Cherry (Coy Duke) and Don Pedro Colley (Sheriff Little) will take part in autograph and photo sessions.

Fans will be able to submit questions for the cast to answer during one part of the event, while a number of cars used in the show ? including the famous Dodge Charger known as the General Lee ? will be on display. There will also be children's activities, live entertainment and food.

"My kids played "Dukes of Hazzard' when they were growing up, which makes me very excited about this event," Sevierville Mayor Bryan Atchley said. "To have cast members from "The Dukes of Hazzard' and Merle Haggard at the stadium is tremendous."

Haggard's performance will be the second one he's done at the stadium in three years. He appeared in 2007 with Willie Nelson and Ray Price. He'll take the stage Saturday evening.

With tourist numbers down throughout the county, local officials are hoping the event will help boost summer visitation.

"We are expecting a big crowd for the event, which will help to bring additional tourist business to Sevier County," County Mayor Larry Waters says.

The hope may not be misplaced. For its run on television, marketing efforts, a recent movie and other reasons, the "Dukes" brand has a massive following. Proof of that can be seen in the attendance at other fan events, as well as at Cooter's in the Smokies store in Gatlinburg.

"They have had thousands of people turn out when they've had events like this before in other places; it's unbelievable the following this still has," Allen Newton, Sevier County Economic Development Council executive director, said. "Certainly we hope this will provide some economic stimulus and get some people into town for that weekend."

The council operates the stadium and plans big-ticket shows like Fan Fest each year.

"That's one of the main reasons to have that stadium," Newton says. "We're always working to create events that will help drive our economy there."

General admission and reserved tickets can be purchased, and ticket packages are available starting at $65 for a two-day pass with a reserved seat for the concert. Sunday-only tickets are available for $20

Chris,

I will try to check my books from last year, but @ first glance the only team that rings a bell is Kaos.

I am sure the teams will be strong, we would have attended but we chose to swap a trip to Tigertown in Masillon this year.

Good Luck.

Played down in Pigeon Forge 3 weeks ago. I do have a few warnings that I will give you. Several people found out the hard way.

1. DO NOT DOUBLE PARK with out of state tags. The locals didn't have any problems but if you have Ohio tags, do not do it. Close knit community and they DO NOT ticket their own.

2. Be prepared for 40 minute drop dead pool play games if you get rain. Once you get 2 games in, no refunds.

3. The fields were able to actually take a lot more rain than you would think, they worked hard on them.

4. Knoxville White Lightning is without a doubt the strongest B bracket team we ever seen. We saw their #3 pitcher and she was lights out.

5. Very friendly coaches and fans. Easy to talk to and love to talk to people that have traveled to their tournaments from

6. Eat at Corky's Ribs and BBQ, OUTSTANDING!!

7. $5.00 per person gate fee, nonrefundable.

8. As a parting note, DO NOT DOUBLE PARK or even look like you might be double parked. You are wasting your time pointing out the TN tags with trailers, campers and fire zone parkers, let alone the overwhelming majority of TN tag double parkers.

Hope you have great weather and a good time. Try that BBQ!

Did you try Bennett's (same side of the street)? A bunch of us liked it better than Corky's (not that Corky's is bad)
Also, have you ever, and I mean ever, seen more places to get pancakes in your life?

I don't respond well to car traffic. I loved the scenery but could'nt hack the traffic jams. Thats about it. I was amazed that many tee shirt shops selling the same tee's could exist in one place.

Plus I'm a Ky Blue Blood and we dislike the big orange the way buckeyes are bred to hate wolverines. MD

Since I lived there for awhile, I'll make the following comment...

Yes they are very friendly, but Ohioans are there to spend money and at the end of the day Ohioans are still Yankees!!! Been there, done that...get ready to pay for the tow truck!!!

We played in the 10U "B" bracket. There were 8U and up at the tournament. All of the teams but one were actual "B" bracket teams. You will have no problem finding pancakes for breakfast either. McDonald's would be jealous of all the pancakes houses. I have a feeling that the tournament director was the justice of the peace, mayor and judge. Absolutely the nicest folks I have met and easy to talk to. They were genuinely concerned that we were treated fair, especially after such a long trip to travel and play.
