My DD played in the QDSS this year and wore a white uniform one of the days - sliding and diving in the dirt of course. For the life of me and the DW, we cannot get the dirt stains out!!!!! Someone have a secret....?

LOL. That southern clay is hard to beat. When Ted was playing in Charlottesville, we used to just soak the uni in a bucket of Clorox mix for 24 hours. Of course, the dazzle and other fabrics for the girls' unis might not stand up to that.

I think we used to use some kind of laundry soap that came in a bar. It was called something like Fels Naptar or something like that. It was sold in the laundry isle at the grocery store.

Fels Naptha is the name of the bar soap. Dampen uniform with warm water, rub Fels Naptha on stains, rub stained material together to create a lather, scrub with nylon brush on stains inside and outside, rinse, and repeat until clean. That's how my mom would clean my baseball pants. It takes some elbow grease but it should get it clean.......

I also heard somewhere that Resolve Carpet Cleaner works too, but I've never tried it.

Answering the phone Bob :)

Before I go w/ my reco's yes - I am a chemist & do work for P&G in the R&D laundry. Most of my reco's will involve our products - because yes they do work & is what I am most familar with.

Tide w/ Bleack granular - is the best cleaning product out there & safe on colors & gets out most stains. Get the stain wet, sprinkle on the det powder & scrub by closing the fabric on itself or use a soft bristle toothbrush& then do a regualr wash in the hottest water - but need to be careful w/ hot water on colored clothes as it does fade them a little which is why you generally wash them in cold. Also, for grease & grass stains I will also mix the tide w/ bleach powder w/ Dawn dishwashing detergent & use a soft bristle brush.

If you are dealing w/ whites - liquid bleach can be the best. Too much bleach however can cause yellowing so watch the amount added. I would suggest Clorox Bleach or the powder chlorine you put in you pools which is pretty safe on colors - this is what we used on our black & white uniforms for clay & underarm stains but these were also sublimated material.

Be careful about using carpet cleaning solutions because they will break down the fibers in the fabric causing them to eventually to break over time & thus a hole appears out of nowhere - not good :(

If you can find a chemcial out there called Neodol -its fabulous & very strong. We use this alot to strip fabric so has to be used in low doses.

Hope this helps - heck maybe there should be a little forum on OFC for this kind of stuff.

Let me know if there are any other questions.

No problem CentervilleFP. If you are looking to get the "stank" out of uniforms/clothing our Tide w/ Febreze is designed to do that since it has malodor control agents that activate during wash. Again if you can get away w/ using hot water it will only add to the cleaning power - a catalyst per say.

BTW - we just launched in August the new Tide Stain release products to add to the wash as an add on - they come in many froms (liquid, liquid tabs, powder).
