Two coaches out of Marion used to have called pitches to hit the batter and even one for the catcher to miss the ball and let it hit the umpire.

Softball is physical. I don't need you to tell me that. If you read catcher to throw at a runner. You will know what I am writing about. I said if a coach has a catcher hit one of my players on purpose--------IT BE ON :yahoo:

Ron Artest I like that. That is funny:lmao: Believe it or not I keep my cool bad calls, bad plays its part of the game. Being dirty shouldn't be.

Alot of times I've heard less experienced parents and coaches say a play is dirty when in reality it is just an aggressive good play. I don't agree with hitting players on purpose, but not all rough plays are dirty. I've taken out and been taken out and it is all part of the game. It's a rough sport and if you try to turn your players into wimps, they will not be prepared for the games. Some teams are dirty and some are just aggressive but a great team will play the game hard no matter who or what they are up against.

You get up to the higher levels its a known thing for a pitcher to plunk a batter or a fielder to plunk a base runner in retaliation for something. Be it agressivness or cought up in the moment it happens. most of the time the coach dosent call it no matter what Bravado they talk....... It is just a part of the game at some point in time....dosent happen often .... but it does happen.

but when the 'ol middle finger drops down... better be a runnin...seen it happen in baseball several times. Not had any of that at the younger ages. Yeah... if the coaches are doing it... time to meet "outside". Class-less...

You mean this one has been on here before?

Maybe we should start one about Texas hold'em... hitting, throwing, stealing signals, umpires blowing calls, dances, Musty getting hormonal, times to first, what sanction is the best, what park blows....... I'm sure I missed some repeat offenders...

.....and even one for the catcher to miss the ball and let it hit the umpire.

Taking me back to my teen years. Only our coach was never in on it. Just a little "miscommunication" between me and the catcher to widen the strike zone a bit.

what about the the other teams coach complaining about r pitchers footwork ect doing alot of yelling just to upset r defence i have seen this happen because they are loosing and trying to get pitcher, players upset so when runner on third,or 1st maybe the catcher will put one in the coaches ear hole.

In my opinion the softball world would be a better place without any coaches intentionally calling for anyone to be hit with a ball and any parent that is ready to go fight people because their little darling got plunked.
You have a right to be unhappy about it but take it to the coach and let them deal with anything on the field. If you think they arent handling it take your kid off the field.
Anyone that thinks fighting someone over softball please do us all a favor and stay home, stop coaching, dont go away mad just go away.

I think some coaches tell their pitchers to hit the batter because it is MUCH easier than intentionally walking them! :)

Any thoughts on the coach who tells his batter to lean in and take one? Saw this happen several times last year and at NSA Nationals.

Reading through that thread, I don't see one single person that agreed with this tactic or thought that hitting the runner was a good idea.

So, yeah, it sounds like "us people" are on something...the right track!

That is a cat and mouse game that has been going on since the invention of sports where someone was throwing a ball at someone holding a stick.

My thought is that as long as the batter's feet are in the batter's box, they can lean wherever they want to. If the batter leans into the pitch and intentionally allows it to contact them, then they should not be awarded first base. By rule, you keep them at the plate and judge the pitch either a ball or strike depending on its relation to the strike zone when the batter contacted it.

Pitchers intentionally hit kids every day in Baseball and Softball. It only gets worse as they get older, and pitching coaches teach to own the inside corner for a reason! Calling catcher left to let for the umpire eat one was all in fun and my kid was 9 when her then coach's called it and it hasn't happend again since. I was a spectator that season and they gave me the heads up and I understood why, the strike zone he used for 9 year olds was ridiculous. I'm sure this post is about hitting runners on purpose as they are running to first. I know in baseball we were taught to hit the runner coming to 2nd if he didn't slide. As much as I hate watching it on TV and seeing pitchers get millions to hit batters, it does take place in youth softball and youth baseball. I know of a very talented girl in the Dayton area that is Junior this year and she gets her fair share of shots from pitchers and talking with her Dad, they are not on accident. Achew there were 3 coach's that year and Playing agressive is a wonderful thing and intentional walks are rarely used in softball and we always called catcher left back in the day when I pitched, if the umpire was squeezing the corners, as a pitcher, it is what it is, it's my plate and I own it, and a batter should say thank you if they hit it. That's the mentallity it takes to be a pitcher Achew!
