Gym Floor

We use the local middle school gym for pitching practice duirng the week. We tape the pitching rubbers to the floor and use GooGone to remove any tape residue build up. Some of our pitchers are leaving black scuff marks on the floor with their drag foot. The GooGone will not remove the scuff marks. Dose anybody have a suggestion for what we can use to remove the marks that will not also damage the finish on the floor. I'm must concerned that we could lose use of the facility if we don't clean up after ourselves better.

Take a tennis ball and rub the black marks with it. You can even cut a small hole in the ball and put it on the end of a broom stick so you will not have to get down on your hands-n-knees. It works great!

WD-40 will easily remove the black scuff marks. Try it......it works.

But, some gym finishes can't take the WD-40. I'd try the tennis ball first as that sounds like a great idea..if it doesn't work... my friend will gladly give you some advice.

Gym Floors at some schools have different finishes... oil based, not oil based.

Man, I agree with what everyone on here had said, but I will tell you that there is no replacement for a quality pitching mat. call Dennis at OB Team Sports 513.289.6204 and he will help you out. I use 5 of them and have just purchaced them in the last 4 years. they hold up great too!!

In most cases the black marks come up by just rubbing the sole of your shoe back over them, but you can still see the scuff marks if the light hits it just right. I'm sure some kind of buffing would solve it. Got my azz jumped about it last week by AD and was threatened with exile so I feel your pain.

Thanks for the info. We'll give it a go after practice tomorrow night.

In all the years DD practiced in gyms I don't ever remember black scuff marks. Aren't the girls wearing non-marking shoes? Why not wrap the drag toe with duct tape?

You can try any of these great ideas, but I will tell you that WD-40 will not harm any gym floor finish. I'm in the construction business and have built many schools and college facilities. The people who install the gym floors recommend WD-40 for removing scuff marks. Trust me it works and won't harm a thing.

We too have a very nice pitching mat, however they can be expensive, so I do feel your pain there. If you do purchase one or a couple, make sure they have the power line down the middle (side benefit :)...)
