so, who should get the primary parking spaces during school ball? the girls who play the game (they are the ones we come to see), the refs (no game without them), the coaches (for the right to bench your kid, haha), or parents (who pay the fees)????

Prime parking for the umpires! Definitely, the umpires! :D

I have, literally, on several occassions LOST my partner for the game in the Pickerington North parking lots.

One guy, we never did find. I think he's still out there, wandering around...

This is one of my favorite places to work games and the parking lot is HUGE- perhaps the largest parking lot of any school in central Ohio. But when there are four softball games, three baseball games, sokker and a track meet going on all at once it fills up fast.

I always thought it was kind of cool during travel tournaments when they have that little gated parking lot right in front of the fields and let the umpires park there. The last few times I've been out there for school ball, it was "first come, first served" and "every man for himself"!

When you are umping a game at Pickerington North, and you hear the Star Spangled Banner playing at the nearby track or ****** fields, do you stop the game in observance?

I tell my kids to see where the field is, look at the foul lines and park as far away as possible to not break there own windshields with foul balls.

I was at a park where fans parked along the outfield fence, needless to say, someone went home with a souvenir.

Wahhh! Last I heard, (UNLESS you have a medical condition) a little walking never harmed anyone. Maybe ask your DD to give you a piggy-back ride to the field?? :lmao:

i'm just spoiled by Central i guess, parking on either side, nets, an actual bathroom, and the best thing of all--no panther fans!

An interesting question. Actually, this has never come up for me before. But I have seen this question raised before on an internet discussion board for umpires and sports officials. If I recall, it was a split decision- about half said they would halt their game and the other half said they would not.

We practiced at North last fall and it happened all the time in the middle of practice. I stopped practice and made the girls face the flag and put their hands on their hearts. Got some wierd looks from the parents but no one said anything.

Back to Parking.... (an Un-Hijack?)

The players are The Show. Let them park in the prime spots. Because in a few years, they're back to being ordinary schmoes like the rest of of us.

louuuuu, i forgot to put "maddog parents" for a voting block! of course, they are most likely to park on the field than a parking space....yuk yuk yuk

I have to share a facebook comment on this same thread---

"A little harsh on the comments about the pick north girls softball don't you
think BIG BOY, you forget we all lve in the same town? the idea is to get there
before the game starts if you want a close parking spot.
last time I checked a little exersize never hurt anyone . Besides pick north had
6 events going at the same time.
Ease up BRO!"

too funny, getting the panther crowd all riled up..SCOREBOARD

The girls playing the game should be at the field well ahead of the spectators, so parking should be open them. Reserve a couple of spaces close to the gate for the umpires, everyone else can battle it out!

well, u know, the players act like princesses sometimes...some of my DD's friends, when they drive over, always seem to block my exit..they are most likely to get that princess spot over parking behind my DD's car in the driveway....not to mention some kids have better cars than me...I expect to park and walk at Berliner, but the North parking lot is only set-up for football/track meets (yes, i know, football is king and I am well aware of it)..the central softball complex is away from the football field, and then the north baseball fields are like walking to an outdoor concert, you need binoculars to see the field from the parking lot..no wonder all the North parents are physically fit

The girls are young, athletic and not so picky where they park. Let em walk. Spots should go to ump's. If they are like the ones in the Cincy area they are just a hair from needing a walker or cane so give them a break. Plus they don't get paid that much for the cr@p they have to take.
