Game 1: OSU 5 Mich 3
great game Buckeyes, now follow it up and take #2 so Michigan drops down in the rankings and Buckeyes can move into the top 10!!!

WOW! Missed game one, Nice to see OSU rise to the challenge. I would have lost money, I was sure MU would beat them.

Did the home plate umpire make the right call?
Play at the plate catcher has the ball and runner slides around the catcher, umpire did not signal safe or out. Should the umpire have signaled safe as to not alert the defense that the runner missed home plate? (replay showed she touched)

Not sure about NCAA umpiring mechanics, but Bretman just went over this recently that umpire is supposed to signal safe since runner beat the tag and it is up to the defense to appeal that runner missed home. Did not watch the game, but did runner ultimately get called out? Which team?

Got to attend and watch 2 great games last night. Good attendance including band for first game. In hindsight wish they would of started Nichols in the second game too. Can't leave bases loaded in first and sixth without scoring. All in all 2 good games, could of been an OSU sweep!

Buckeye runner was ultimately called safe but not until she dove back and touched homeplate again.

I would have guessed the ump did the right thing. If the ump would have signaled safe just because the runner beat the tag, wouldn't runner believe they are safe and make no attempt to touch the plate again? In that situation if the defense appeals and gets the runner out after the home plate ump signals safe I would be livid if I was the other coach. It's different than other bases because once the runner has touched home they have already scored and their part in the play is over. I can see someone being called safe and then being called out on an appeal at any other base because the original attempt at the out was made and the tag was missed so for that part of the play the runner is safe but the runner could still be tagged out if they lose contact with the base at any point in time and they are actually tagged while not in contact with the base.

JMO

What do you guys think?

I feel the umpire did the right thing, I thought it was discussed in here recently that a safe call was to be made on a play at the plate and then wait for either a tag or an appeal? The commentators made note that the umpire did it correctly, because on the attempt to touch home the 2nd time, based on the replay the runner never made it back to touch home plate because the catch blocked her with the ball in hand. However on the replay the runner did touch the plate on the first attempt, so correct call was made. Just need to be accurrate what is correct, safe call on first attempt or no call and wait (which alerts the defense)?

Wondered how others felt about the Michigan pitcher's motion and delivery? Couldn't tell on TV, but it looked like her right foot would leave the rubber on her wind up and also it didn't look like she was dragging her back foot either? Illegal?

Thought was illegal w/ no drag but not real bad didn't feel advantage was gained.

Taylor has been called for a few illegals this year, but she yet to change mechanics. If you watch closely, she'll replant on several pitches. Both games were excellent.
