Congrats to all of the girls that are on the teams.

I will say that communicating the try-out info has much to be improved. I believe that it is dependent on HS coaches tell their players about it. No where was it posted in any paper that I know of.

Bill,

I think it is up to coaches to send players. I believe only 2 from each team are supposed try out(at least in the Central District)

Johnnies- You allow others to attack the coaches within the process of the underclassman tourney, yet you delete my post which refuted the statement. As a long-time OFC member, high school coach, travel organization president, I take offense to your selective enforcement.

While it certainly is your right, my post did nothing other than state my opinion as to another's post. If you look at the post in question, they were certainly attacking and disparaging the coaches and selection process for this event.

We need to applaud the efforts of those who make this a wonderful softball experience for the ladies and reward for their efforts during the season, not trash the process because someone's DD did not make it. The vast majority of members on this site are there to promote the game and applaud the efforts of the players. Let's do that and not trash those who are trying to make this a better experience for the girls.

they keep score in these games and the coaches are playing to win, therefore they are going to choose players they know will get it done in game situations, not because they hit off of a machine real well. Lastly it is classless getting on here and ragging on coaches that are doing this on their own time,no compensation or recognition for their time. If your dd didn't make the team its usually the person in the mirror thats at fault. Get used to it people,"LIFE IS NOT FAIR"!

This is the only "Right On" I have seen in this thread. Stewie, Good post.

All I will add, is this is 100% a good old boys club. I laughed when I watched in our conference coaches vote 5 kids from another school that we run ruled and yet we only had 3 loses in our conf and our kids got ignored. . I was told by our coach that the conversation was you vote for my kid I will vote for your's. . How does this make kids feel. All Conference in high school around here has become a joke! I'm still laughing about the last couple of posts, because we have played against many of these players. It is not about picking the best player, or someone is looking with blinders on!.
Keep in mind we see many of these players in travel ball and high school and have a very good idea who should make this list. The only post above that I agree with " Life is not fair" But have a bunch to change to gain anyones respect in this area.

I am mistified by all of the complaining and out right ignorance in some of the postings on this thread. First of all, there are no seniors on any of the rosters,ZERO,NONE!Secondly, they keep score in these games and the coaches are playing to win, therefore they are going to choose players they know will get it done in game situations, not because they hit off of a machine real well. Lastly it is classless getting on here and ragging on coaches that are doing this on their own time,no compensation or recognition for their time. A majority of the roster are players who are no longer Juniors but will be Seniors with the new school year. Regardless of Junior/Senior status, it is not an underclass tournament.

I read a bunch of softball sites. It would appear this topic is the hot topic this week on about every site. Few if any understand or agree with how it was done. When you read the sites and see stats and numbers on who didn't get picked you kind of wonder!

They were underclassmen this year. That is the way it has always been. It is not a tournament for the 2011 season.

underclassman definition(s)(n) an undergraduate who is not yet a senior
(you could argue the fact that a junior is not an underclassmen but in this tournament they are)

I and many others can state our opinions without naming people, teams, organization and other posters and are able to state their opinions without calling out a poster and saying their opinions are a crock of ****. This is not selective enforcement - IT IS COMMON DECENCY. You don't have to like it but you will follow our guidelines. No attacks.. period.

Any other complaints?

You have mail....

Dan - one option would be to allow an all conference team that would play others in their division. Just a thought. Still, even in an all conference team there should be limits on how many players can be picked from one team.

Going back to the 1st or second post...it was a joke. My dd walked away not interested in playing, because of the poor impression of the way the session was conducted. She did not even check who made the team, until after ASA states on Sunday, even though it was announced by Friday.

I wondered why the juniors from our school that were 1st team league did not go. For the same reason my dd said she will not go back next year. We went to this with an open mind but when there was no one even watching, poor numbers of evaluators and volunteers, it was clear that it was all a waste of time except for a poor practice session. If you are going to do something, do it right or not at ALL (even if you volunteer!). This is not a good reflection of Ohio High School Sports

Just curious, how were the girls in the SW District notified of the tryout times- via HS coaches? A couple of our girls would like to have at least tried out, but heard of it after the fact.

The coaches knew when and where tryouts were. I know our high school coach didn't send anyone.

It is my understanding the HS coaches have to select the players to tryout.

I agree Jim. They have a problem. In business if the customer is not happy you try to improve the process. It would appear reading all the posts the customers are very upset. I'm hearing the same things, kids will not even try out and coaches are just not sending players.

Is this across all districts? I was at the second night of try-outs for the Central district and there were at least 50 girls there on a Monday evening. I have no idea how many showed up for the Sunday try-out.

No sure, but reading other conf web sites. Many are just unhappy with the whole processs. The Northern Ohio Sports Forum, MVL, and other forums this is a hot topic.
I know if my customers were this unhappy with my product, we would change, ( unless you are the government) or go out of business!

Interesting, my dd made the team, first time we met the coaches. Still can't remember their names.

Congrats to your DD; but I have seen the "name" game played so many times over the years.

I suspect it went as some said- one or two players from each team. Our coach gave my dd the paper about the team and I talked to several other people from our team and they didn't know about it. My dd was unable to go- on Sunday we ended up playing late, another day she had to study for 3 finals, and the last day it rained....I was suprised when I saw the team listed that it was mostly 2011 graduates; I thought "underclass" meant girls from 2012 and 2013 classes
