ASA Tournament ASA 18u 2011 STATE TOURNAMENT (Massillon)

I can't generate a schedule yet due to the fact that
registrations are open until Thursday, June 16th.
I will be in Compuware this weekend, so schedules will
be generated the first of next week. ALL teams will play
Friday morning (Pool Play) either at 8 AM or 9:40 AM.
Double-elimination will start early Friday
evening. Hope this helps for planning purposes.

Any recomendations on hotels?

The best hotel "location-wise" is the Hampton Inn located
in downtown Massillon ( 5 minute drive or less to any of the
field locations ). Don't know about their rates, though. The
closest area of multiple hotel choices is in Jackson Township
near Route 77 and Everhard & Route 77 and Portage.

SPECIAL NOTE - Pool Play is currently slated to start at 8:00 AM on Friday.

Just curious, if you are scheduling on 1hr 40min gametimes, and starting at 8 in the morning, pool play will be done at approx 3pm, with teams traveling from all corners of the state and most that are traveling arriving late on Thursday, wouldn't it make sense to begin pool play later in the morning to allow these 18's an opportunity to get a good nights rest before what could be a grueling weekend, of course I realize the tournament is being planned by a group that will be sleeping in their own beds during this event, but it would seem to me that the "home field" advantage is being taken advantage of, but then we ARE in STARK COUNTY!! LOL!!!

I am certain that there is no such thing as schedules that "make sense" anymore!! Especially not in high caliber tournaments! We will be traveling from the Cleveland area, and while only about 70 miles away, it's just long enough to be too close for a hotel but far enough to kick your butt when you play at 8am. However, that's what comes with travel ball territory!

Also, thanks Chuck for the info on the scheduling. I will look for it tonight or tomorrow.

fpfan22, you are correct... pool play will be done for ALL teams by 3 PM.
Bracket play will start at 4 PM, with each team playing 1 game on Friday
evening. If the weather co-operates.... each team will have played 3 games
on Friday and be done by 9 o'clock. Kids will have a chance to get a decent
night's rest before resuming play on Saturday at 8:00 or 9:00 AM, with the possibility of playing 4, 5, 6 games. For the 8 teams that make it to Sunday... and typical of a 32-team double-elimination tournament... there could be another 4, 5 or 6 games for the teams that make it through. We're trying to get this schedule spaced out so teams don't play on Saturday night until midnight... and have to come back at 8 AM on Sunday morning and try to make a run.
I can tell you now... If I could get 100 games played in 3 days without starting at 8 AM
on Friday, it would be done. AND.... with this being a State Tournament with 4 berths available to Nationals... we have to allow for the possibility of R_ _ _ , which could have all of us playing throughout the night to who knows when on late Sunday night/Monday morning. As things stand now (and no inclement weather, and no time delays)... the tournament won't end until about 7 PM on Sunday night. Hope this clears things up and dispels any feelings of "Home Field Advantage".

Just a heads up to coaches and all who are interested....
Due to heavy rains and the probability of not being able
to use Community Park on Friday (possibly Saturday)... most
teams will have their pool play schedules altered slightly. Our
goal is to push already scheduled games back one time slot.
Some games won't be affected, so continue to plan on playing at your
already schedules times. This continues to be a work in progress, so please bear with us.

Will this affect the games at Genshaft park also?

If you're not going to be able to use community park, where will the games scheduled for there be played at?
