I know, That's why were waiting to email pool play schedules. There's 7 teams playing this weekend and 5 are scheduled to play in our State. Hopefully I can have a SET pool games sunday evening. I'm going to contact Martin Drain sunday evening. Thanks for your patience.

So essentially ASA is hurting their own state tournament by not letting teams play without losing their national berth.

I believe that Ohio ASA (which is the source of the rule; the ASA Code makes it clear that a local association can chose to allow teams to play without forfeiting their existing berths) does not want a team that already has a berth knocking out a good team that would represent Ohio well at ASA/USA. Having given you the Ohio ASA rationale, I should quickly add that I disagree with the rule. The rationale could just as easily apply to the luck of the draw in pool assignments and the resulting seeding. And the ASA Code provides a good set of rules for breaking ties when a berth is passed down because the existing berth holder doesn't need another berth.

This becomes really important at 16u, because the ASA States tournament is not just a qualifier, it is a major tournament for college exposure. We've been lucky to have a TD at 16u this year who has worked with us to have a side pool of excellent competition for teams that don't want to enter States and forfeit their berths.

Carol,

We have tentatively entered a Michigan ASA/USA Qualifier for the weekend of States based upon the hope we are lucky enough to win a berth this coming weekend at the Region 9. They are permitting us to play in their tournament even if we win our berth earlier. If we don't win it in Toledo this weekend, they will refund our money. It is also a regional tournament, but he also indicated that they will allow all Michigan teams to play in their State tourney even if they have won berths.

Seems kind of silly at any level not to have the best teams at the State tournament. They'll be at least 4 at the 14U level that have won berths that don't go to State this year.

I've emailed Warren my thoughts, but never got a response.

Are campers allowed to stay at the ball fields? Our team has a few and we usually park in the far back so we are not taking up any room for others to park close. Please let us know. Thanks

Endless chants.... Change the rule....change the rule....

Doug - I have not seen anything posted. Just what they sent via email in some oddball format that is not conducive to forwarding or copying. We were told that bracket games will not start until Saturday.

It is a perfect set up for teams to enjoy travel ball and bond as a team. Families too!

Due to our hotel being a dive, our "Team" hotel now only has three families left here.

Please post any bracket information you may come up with .... we are depending on texts and phone calls.

Wanted to say thanks to the parent on the wizards gold ... our RF 'Kennie' ran into the fence making a catch on a foul ball and somehow her top braces caught in the fence and pull off her teeth! when she ran in bleeding and holding her mouth I was afraid to look. she 'smashed her gums / lips on the braces (hence the blood) and the braces where 1/4" off her teeth.. crazy kid took a couple minutes to compose herself and went back out and played to finish the game... afterwards a parent on the wizards who is a dentist came up and 'set' them back (he was not able to fully attach them) on there enough so she could get her lips over them... lol...

we played some great teams this weekend and met many many new folks, everyone was great - it was what softball should be about... good luck to the team playing now... it was a long three days of hard softball, any of them deserve to bring the title home...

I thought Grand Slam was the runner up? Did they not get a bid?

Guess they didn't want to make the trip to Sioux Falls. Last year it went down at least 10 spots before there were any takers for 14U USA nationals. Probably the case this year too.
