It is a triple elimination format, where losers of the 1st game drop to a losers bracket. Losers of the 1st round losers bracket will drop further into losers bracket - (double secret probation?).
In essence, if you lose your first 2 games, you do have a chance to come back thru - win your first game and you are into straight double elimination.
