Just wondering who you think is the #1 team in Ohio for 18U teams?
Have any thoughts or comments?
Who are going to be the powerhouses this summer that we need to watch out for? Again, do you have any thoughts or comments?

It's going to be last minute for us - with regard to the 6/1 weekend. I've got 5 back so far, but have to wait until Wed to see how that goes.

We are pretty strong this year.

Think about what DavidAnderson said. There's more truth to that than shows on the surface.

There are quite a few 18u teams in Ohio, but the TOP level teams will have a roster full of already-signed college recruits. The thing is, other than staying sharp for college, they have nothing to prove. They no longer need to showcase their skills to college coaches, because they are already signed. Lots of these girls won't play full time, because of workouts, jobs, etc. Getting ready for college - both academically and athletically is the priority. Traveling every weekend usually doesn't fit that agenda. 18u is very competitive, but just a more relaxed mindset. Putting a team together every weekend can be a challenge.

IMO, the 16u teams really have more to prove. Compuware, Stingrays, Sluggerfest, etc. - that's where you'll see these teams battling for playing late on Sunday.

Sammy, that may be true of some teams and some players, but not all. Teams with a lot of signees also have the college coaches following their recruits during the summer. What kind of message does the coach get if the recruit is off somewhere doing something else?
Most of these top level players have great attitudes (which is one reason they've been recruited) and want to continue playing competitively all summer. Last summer off and on I watched Pruner from OSU play for Grand Slam. She never missed anything that I know of (games, practices) and what did she have to prove? She had already finished her freshman year at OSU. She played hard every time I watched. I guess that's what distinguishes the top level from mediocrity.
I would think that summer coaches should also screen players a little better to see who is willing to make the committment as opposed to scrambling every weekend to field a team.

Well, blue_moon, since you put it that way, I guess the best 18u team would be the one where you could get the most DI college freshman to play on - especially pitchers. But then, some top level tournaments don't allow college players, regardless of age. I also watched Pruner last summer, and she is the real deal - as is the Grand Slam organization.

If they are still around, I would add the Tiger Lillies and the Coke 'n Ice teams.

Isn't the 18U Maddogs 1 of only 2 Ohio ASA Gold teams? Who is the other Gold team?

C`mon wolpack, there is no way that there are 17 teams that could win anyday! Go out on a limb and give us your top 5. I`ll even let you pick 6 considering your #1 will be your team (as it should be). What have you seen so far from fall ball?
